Volent Paragon VL-2 or Monitor Audio Platinum? I own them and normally use them in my 12x16 office, in a bookshelf! I have stuffed the ports, which reduces the bass. It is still slightly too strong, but I live with it quite happily, as the other qualities are so wonderful. Strangely, in my ope...
KEF Q Series vs. XQ Series? Yes, there is a big improvemnet to the X series. Better drivers, cabinets, and crossover parts. I've had XQ1 and Q1s and the sound moves from just ok to excellent.
AAD 2001 monitors, bi-amping experiment There are multiple things at work here, I think. The 2001s, which I own and love, can be a bit hot on top, something tubes can soften. In my case I padded down the tweeters just a smidge with a 1 ohm resistor, which solved the problem for me. Bi-a...
Volent Paragon VL-2 or Monitor Audio Platinum? 24" stands are best for most sitting positions. The best sound is with the ear level at the tweeter level to 4" above, depending partially on distance, of course. The tweeter is about 12" above the bottom of the speaker. As always with stands, the...
Volent Paragon VL-2 or Monitor Audio Platinum? I own the Volent, but haven't heard the MA Platinum (owned the Gold 10 once).Your spec "very focused, 3 dimensional presentation" fit the VL-2 to a T, but they do 2 other things extraordinarily well. One is the depth and power of the bass. No othe...
Thiel CS3.6 If the amp is comfortable at 2 ohms and the room is not too large, it should work fine. The Thiels crave current drive, not necessarily high wattage. If they don't get the current they need, they will sound bright and thin. Also, you should have 3...
Volent VL-2, Hyperion 968 or Acoustic Zen Adagio I think taste will play a big part here. These are all excellent speakers. If you value top to bottopm speed and transparency most highly, the Volent are about as good as you can get, period. They really do sound like large ribbon speakers. Bass i...
History on ohm A's and F's. I had heard the Fs in the '70s, and was very impressed by the power, scale and coherence of the sound. Years later, in the early 90s, I bought a pair of mint Fs to compare to the Walsh 5s I had so I could compare them directly. To me it was not clo...
OHm micro walsh series... I just posted this about the Walsh 5...http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/speakers/messages/27/272574.htmlThe micros have a smaller sound, and not as refined, but they do sound very lively and in-room.
History on ohm A's and F's. I've owned Fs, two pair of Walsh 5s and a pair of Walsh Sats (similar to 100s). They float instruments very well, and are coherent, but the Fs are very recessed on top, and bass heavy except in very large rooms. The 5 is much better, but still a b...
What can come after Apogee Divas ? VMPS RM60 w/ subs.
Is there any stat speaker to stick on the wall? VMPS ribbon monitors can be pretty close. My RM30s can be placed against the wall and will still sound terrific. Among the most beautiful cabinets, too.
Which $7000 speakers to ask Santa? Spend $5k- get maxed out VMPS RM30s. Perhaps the greatest bargain in a sota speaker ever.
speaker for TEAC ref 300 min series I bought several sets of the Teacs for my daughters, so I know the sound. It is musical and easy on the ears, perhaps a bit soft on the bottom end, but not too gutsy. I owned the Epos and found them unacceptably rough. The MAs would be better, but...
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6 I've been using the PS HCA2 for three years with mine- the sound is gorgeous and there is plenty of horsepower on tap. The best bang for the buck wtih the 3.6s, I'm sure. |
