Favourite Vinyl female and male vocals ...and of course Billie Holiday...on actual recordings available on high quality LP, have you heard Anthony and the Johnson's ? Stunning voice...Also Chet Baker Sings, Patricia Barber, Eleanor McEvoy (Out there)...
Seismometer on iPhone I downloaded all 3 seismometers available for i-phone and tested them on my turntables. None of them are sensitive enough to use for vibration damping tests. Maybe someone has better results than me ? I used all the frequencies settings available.
Lenco speed control screws A Phillips screwdriver of the right size in enough. I do it so with all my Lenco's and there is no special screwdriver mentionned in the manuals. If difficult to unscrew, tap gently with a small hammer on screwdriver in the screw.
Garrard 301 or 401? 301 grease bearing is one of the top vintage idlers with Lenco L70 / 75 and Thorens TD 124 and EMT 930 . If you put it in a heavy plinth ( Giant ply or slate) it is a wonderful sounding turntable, with slam and dynamics hardly reached since.
Graham Phantom vs. Phantom II Oct. issue of Stereophile is reviewing the Phantom II and answers many of the questions asked. Jean.
Direct drive/rim drive/idler drive vs. belt drive? Lewm: I agree with you that Win's Saskia is the closest approach to the ideal turntable. Resonant signature reduced to the max.Tight coupling bearing/tonearm. Deadened heavy platter. Slate plinth/tonearmboard. Idler drive.
Direct drive/rim drive/idler drive vs. belt drive? Ralph: brilliant description of the reduced resonance signature of the turntable parts. BRILLIANT.My experiments with plinths and platters show that you are right on spot !
Graham Phantom vs. Phantom II Because the main cylinder is moving on one plane when you set the azymuth with the magneglide, mine is leaning left side to have the right azymuth. Micropoise is a help for VTA to have armwand parallel to the record.
New favorite VINYL Album? The complete Thelonious Monk " Live at the It Club " / Mosaic Box Set.
New Monk vinyl box set on Mosaic I received the Monk box set yesterday. It is a jewel. All four albums are top sounding and mastered, no defects, dead quiet background. Bob Blumenthal's notes on the booklet are well documented and 8 photos . 5 previously unissued sets. Another gr...
Establishing a common analog listening bias In jazz I suggest 2 wonderful reissues from Analogue productions that everybody has (must have): Art Pepper meets The Rythm Section and Waltz for Debby from Bill Evans. Not expensive and widely available, sound to die for.Jean.
Establishing a common analog listening bias May I give an example of easily available , no contest good sound, better than original, not expensive and that many of us already have ? I think of Tin Pan Alley from Stevie Ray Vaughan's album Couldn't stand the weather from Pure Pleasure record...
