auric illuminator, effective? disc beveling?
I've never tried disc beveling but in my system, Auric Illuminator makes an improvement at least on some discs. It is especially noticeable on Sting CDs. They often sound sibilant and this improves that aspect of these discs. I imagine that the be...
room setup
In my old room (a dedicated LEDE room) I had some Infinity Prelude MTS set up and sounding amazing. The depth is something I'm still trying to acheive in my new room. Anyway, we decided to add a 36" Sony WEGA HDTV monitor to turn it into a theater...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Bass traps! I guess these could be fairly expensive if you really go all-out but even one or two strategically placed traps can make an amazing improvement.
DIY Bass traps & treatments..
Snickelfriz' suggestion is a good one. I just completed building some traps based on Ethan Winer's designs and I'm elated with the results.
Spectacular Drum Set?
Tool, Rush and Dead Can Dance have some incredible drums on just about every album.
Does anyone do good protest music anymore?
A Perfect Circle has at least a few on "Thirteen Steps". "Pet" is obviously dedicated to dubya.
What is it called?
Maybe what you're looking for is an attenuator. Not necessarily cheap but very transparent if you don't mind getting out of your chair to adjust volume.Check this out:http://www.tweakaudio.com/EVS-2/Ultimate_Attenuators.html
Vintage Bogen Mono Blocks D070's-
I'm not familiar with that particular model but I remember Bogen amps from my stint as a high school AV guy. They were PA amps and not very hi fi as I recall.
Which components knocked you out on first listen?
Back in 1976, I heard a pair of Frasier loudspeakers (model unknown but they were about the size of small refrigerators). They were driven by a 350 wpc Phase Linear amp and Phase Linear auto correlation preamp. Dunno what kind of turntable and car...
stacked equipment isolation?
I can't claim to be any kind of an expert and I've never heard the dramatic differences that vibration control can supposedly make but I've found that floating my components on bicycle inner tubes (and placing books on top if there aren't vents th...
Listening room ceiling type?
My old listening room was in a condo and my primary concern was isolation so as not to bother the neighbors. Now that I'm trying to make an existing home theater room in our new house sound good, I realize how good my old room was. Here's what I d...
General transport Question
Here is a link to the Tent labs site. The X03 is under "Player Upgrades".http://www.tentlabs.com/index.htmlThe installation instructions were a little vague when I bought mine. I'm an electrical engineer so I was able to trace the signals I needed...
General transport Question
Jitter is definitely the great bugaboo of many transports. When I was putting together my first new system in 15 years, I opted for a DVD player/external DAC combination thinking that the external DAC would provide all of the performance improveme...
The "look" of DLP vs. LCD
Thanks for the responses. My front runner right now (just based on reviews and heresay) is the Panasonic PT-AE700. It sounds like the pixel structure is extremely fine and the color reproduction is excellent.I did see a Sony HS20 about 6 months ag...
Good Materials for Curtains
I put up some velvet curtains on the front and side walls and they seem to have eliminated enough of the early reflections to increase focus, depth and imaging quite noticeably.
