I like the A23, the JC-1, and many of the previous generation Parasound, just not the A21.

Just not my preference. System sounded great with Odyssey, Thor and Pass amps. My point really is to not lay out $2500 for an amp because other people like it.

I found it kind of bland or flat. More that I didn't like it as opposed to disliked it. If you're looking at integrateds too there are very many possibilities...I've been very happy with recent Simaudio products...

Odyssey Stratos with upgrades. I like the A23 for it's price, do not particularly care for the A21.

Agree with sbank and would add Vandersteen to the list of extra careful audition due to placement, set up, and electronics issues...

I find the inexpensive, high performance systems more fun in some ways, but the big system sure does sound a lot better...

Aerial 7b, 8, 8B, or 10T all do a good job at what you want, and at current used prices are enough below your budget to get a better amp also 
Yamaha A-S500 85WPC Easily Driving ATC SCM11 v2
I have not seen any reviews or comments about the A-S501 and have wondered if it's the same amp as the 500 plus a DAC or a different amp also...

From what I read from Vandersteen fans here, placement is crucial, more so than with many speakers, but you sure are going to the right person...

I prefer a dedicated audio player ( have used Lexicon and Oppo universals), also prefer a CD player for redbook, as opposed to cd/sacd
