Stereophile review of Escalante Fremont
Unfortunately, Dhaan above is correct about the WP and the hot Focal tweeter -- the breakup resonance indeed causes distortion throughout the presence region, and this is plainly audible in the original Focal (JM Labs) Utopias and the Wilsons.I do...

Raquel,You can read a play by play on my AVS HT thread:http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=748097&page=1&pp=30I will post a synopsis eventually on these fora as well. The titanium drivers seem to be sounding better hour by hour...

I do use a PEQ in my setup, with an analog bypass as well.

BTW, rachel, it isn't so much the Watt Puppies as it is the room itself. I currently have Revel Salon2s in the room and they have bass issues in the same areas (and then some extra in others!). The W/P8 had a few dB extra in the 60-80Hz extra but ...
New room problems?
Why not get a consultation from Rives Audio. That's what I did. It was well worth it...http://www.rivesaudio.com/services/servframe.html

Here is what Hoffman said about the mids (and the rest of his comments), which largely tracks with what I hear:OMG, now I understand why some of his masterings sound so terribly overripe in the bass... I complained about it a few months ago to som...
Revel Salon 2 versus WP 8
Hey again everyone. I now have a pair of Salon2s to compare to my W/P8s in my listening room. We just put them in the room today. I'm giving them two weeks to break-in.I already did in-room measurements. They aren't that different from each other ...
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
Shadorne,In other words, I recommend it for anyone who is a fan of music. It can only help you appreciate music more by being able to discuss it with greater subtlety.I would especially recommend it to you because the ATCs measure so flat. They wo...
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
Shadorne,I liked it. It is cool to be able to understand when you are hearing things like ranges of the frequency response being out of proportion. Of course, with my 40-90Hz bass issues, I already knew there was a problem because of the kick drum...
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
It makes sense that a flat frequency response is a good starting point. I don't know if people will inherently like it better without training. I can't even do that kind of experiment on myself, because I've done the Moulton Labs training courses....
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
Bob,Teaching people what results to pick, then putting them in a test room to pick those results goes beyond just weeding out the hearing deficient IMO...
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
Actually, what they did was to evaluate and train listners to hear various types of distortions added to program material. As well, this was for research purposes, not in any way a marketing ploy to sell a particular brand of loudspeaker. The testi...

Drubin,You are referring to what Paul Barton said concerning Toole's studies? I've heard that people prefer sizzle on top, not roll-off. Do you have a quote? Thanks.
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
Does anyone have any information and a link that quantifies "smooth?" I've been wondering exactly what the term means in respect to frequency response, not as much in phase response. I'd also be interested in what Paul Barton meant by additional m...
Flat Anechoic Measured Frequency Response Speakers
According to Dr. Toole's group that has been researching subjective listening for the past 2 decades, it seems to be very important. Not necessarily flat, but smooth. The not necessarily flat point is important. Supposedly people like a deviation f...
