Best CD player now made.
I had to jump in, since there are about equal numbers voting for Meridian and Sony.I traded my 506.20 for an SCD-777ES. If I had to pick one (for CD only!) definitely the Meridian, and it ain't a 508.24 or a 588 for that matter. Someone above said...
Best combo - integrated amp/ speakers/$8,000
In a past system I had the Rowland Concentra (original) with a pair of Tyler Acoustics Linnbrook monitors. I think you would have a very hard time beating this system - especially at the price of about 5k (Used) or 6k (new speakers, used amp). BTW...
What speakers to replace Paradigm 100.2? Help
The Tyler Acoustics Linnbrooks have that full "bloom" sound, excellent mids and highs due to the high quality drivers, and have impressive bass - the beauty is they are easy to place, even close to the walls, and easy to drive. They don't change a...
Organ CDs with really deep bass
Late in the thread, but I wanted to mention that the Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ Society put out a fundraiser CD of the organ - not a blockbuster **BUT** it has a recording of the solo 64' stops! I don't know of any other recording that ha...
Buggtussel Speakers - heard 'em?
I heard them at C.E.S. this year - I was impressed on a few counts but also disappointed. After having listened to about 10 or 12 other speakers that day (including Wilsons, JMLab Be's, and others) I was amazed at the "presence" of the piano conce...
Wanted... Advice - Best Speaker for McIntosh Amp
I used to own the MC 300 amp with the C-15 preamp. I used it with B&W Matrix 802's, PSB Gold i's, and Aerial Model 6's. The 802's were really awesome with the McIntosh - just because the matrix line is discontinued don't count it out! It sound...
Best speaker 3k to 4k used?
Third recommendation for Aerials - for your amp and listening tastes the model 6's would be perfect (yes, I use them too..). I use a 100 w/ch Rowland integrated - the combination is fantastic. I use them even in a decent sized room (21 X 13) and o...
Considering the Rule of Diminishing Returns.......
Check out the PSB Silver i's - you can find great deals on the net. The reason I mention them is that a previous poster mentioned the Golds, which I used to own before I bought my Aerials. The Golds are in fact very placement sensitive (very heavy...
Revel vs. Aerial vs. B&W
In the event you're near the East coast Mr. Kelly of Aerial is giving a demo of the 20t's in Raleigh, NC at the end of June at Audioadvice. (I just received a mailer; not involved personally...) I wish I had your dilemma!
Am I going insane?
I don't normally join in these sorts of discussions when all the good advice has already been given, but I wanted to second P mmk's post about brightness. It may be an assumption of course that the Boston's are brighter in sound than the B&W's...
For organ afficianados
For those interested - I just realized I made an error - the review of this CD was not in TAS but in The Audiophile Voice. Sorry for the mix up.
For organ afficianados
Tom, I'm jealous! The booklet actually talks about your Aunt a bit. One of my dreams is to some day sit there and play "Come, Sweet Death" a la Virgil Fox in his famous 1939 performance. There is a later recording of it (BTW, that is also availabl...
Speaker Recs for McIntosh and Jupiter Combo?
If you're looking for something perhaps temporary, or maybe even long term, when I was buying my McIntosh equipment the dealer hooked up a pair of PSB Stratus Bronze's, the cheapest of the Stratus series, apologizing that that was the best he had ...
Most achingly-beautiful music
Verdi's Requiem - the whole thing.
Aerial 6's lighter in the low end than the 7b's...
I own the 6's and find them very satisfactory in the bass area; my radio shack SPL meter gives me flat response with the 6's down to about 35 Hz (aside from room interaction - see below). As always with bass, it really depends on your room. Look a...
