Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby? I was going to chime in, but @grinnell described my situation perfectly. At this point, I’ll buy something only if something I have breaks, and even then I’ll likely buy used.
Do sound characteristics matter when moving from midfi to hifi? I agree that changing a single component in a system may, although not necessarily, noticeably alter the sound. For my first post-college system, I visited stereo stores in Anchorage. (During the pipeline construction years, lots of folks had some...
classical music for the solo piano which hits all the 'keys'. Wonderful to read, thanks for posting! I’ll look for the recording.
Movie/film suggestions. To clarify br3098’s post, the Portland station is All Classical Radio, aka All Classical Portland, KQAC 89.9. I listen to it through TuneIn. And the programming is great. I especially enjoy the late night, early morning programming.
Does anyone listen to the radio anymore? In the car: Classical (All Classical Portland KQOC), Jazz (KMHD Portland), NPR news and “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me”). Does streaming count? At home, I stream the same sources. All Classical Portland has especially wonderful late night and early a...

I suggest "accessible" because you can more easily discern and learn to appreciate theme and variation which, as described above, is central to jazz. None of my suggestions are Big Band, Avant Garde, ...
New In 2024 Thanks to @jafant for starting this thread and making lots of contributions, and to everyone who's also contributed. Lots to listen to! Jim
Modern Covers of Classics Great thread! Cat Power singing Dylan’s Royal Albert Hall concert and Joan Osborne’s “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted” were new to me and are amazing. I will listen to more of each. Thanks to @ezwind for Cat Power and to bdp24 for Joan Osborne....
Noir album recommendations “Haunted Heart” by Charlie Haden and his Quartet West (cd).
A Tale for Your Bemusement Thanks to all for reading and taking the time to comment. @carlsbad2, over the time I’ve had the HAP S1 there’ve been two firmware updates, the last one of which was some time ago, at least 5-6 years ago or more.. Until I learned that Sony had st...
Looking for integrated solid state amp for daily usage Try listening to a Wyred4Sound integrated to see if it meets your preferences in sound. Even the model on the lowest rung (STI-VII) has lots of power and all the models have low power consumption in the stand-by mode. Good luck in our search. Jim
