Need help with tube linestage-SF vs ARC vs Others I am VERY happy with my LS 16 MKII. It is very, very good. However, how it interacts with your system is anybody's guess until you try it. It worked wonders with mine. It elevated my Maggie 3.6R's to a level I did not know they could attain. The d...
Senior Audiophiles - Audiophile since the 60-70's? My best system is my current one with Maggie 3.6R, ARC SP-14 phono stage, ARC LS 16 MKII linestage, Linn LP-12 Valhalla/Akito/Blue Point Special record playing system, Sony SACD, and Rotel/Genesis/Theta CD combo. However, I really miss the system ...
Used Pre-amp advise please.... I would suggest an ARC Sp-14. Has a killer phono stage and a very nice FET linestage. ARC products are built to last and they support everything in their line ever produced. You should be able to find one on Audiogon or Ebay for around $1000. I th...
Anyone tried Magnepan 1.6's with rock music? I used the 1.6 as my main speakers for 3 years. They were powered by the Classe' 25 (500wpc @ 4ohms) and I used a Vandersteen 2WQ subwoofer so the Classe' didn't even need to supply energy for the bottom octave and classic rock like the Eagles Hel...
Maggie 3.6 owners -- please help Innersounds have a VERY narrow sweetspot. Wide enough for one person is what my local dealer recommended. The Maggie 3.6R is somewhat better in that regard. I use the 3.6R in a hybrid 2 channel/5.1 home theater setup. With an active center channel...
where is ref level on the realitine scale In THX parlance "reference level" means a couple of different things. The level calibration of the white noise generator for surround level is 85db for THX movie theaters. For Home THX, it is usually specified as 75db. Using your trusty Radio Shac...
Need advice...driving some vintage JBL's I recently put together a retro system together for the bedroom. I found a pair of JBL L100A's and a Yamaha CR620 receiver on Ebay. The JBL L100 is a time machine for classic rock. Really takes yout back to the 70's. It ROCKS with the modestly pow...

Hendrix Voodoo My electrical engineering buddies tell me it was done with changing the phasing of the recording during the mixing process. Hendrix uses this technique in several places in the Electric Ladyland Album. Check out "1983...A Merman" or the title trac...
Live Hendrix I have an LP of Hendrix in the West which features fabulously recorded and performed live versions of Red House and Little Wing. Absolute nirvana for Hendrixphiles.
Best live album you've ever heard? The Who Live at Leeds is the ne ultra plus of "live" rock and roll recordings of all time. Great sounding recording that really captures the sound and fury of the greatest rock and roll band that ever assaulted an audience with killer decibels, "s...
Guitar playing audiophiles, Martin or Taylor? I have an old Sigma HD 28 made in Japan for Martin back in the early 1980's. It is an excellent guitar. It has a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Made the old fashioned way before CNC and finish...
1 big sub or 2 small? For home theater, bass management is simplified by the use of a single subwoofer. It is less complicated to set up. For those who are willing to go the extra mile, mulitple subs can work well but for most folks a single sub is a better solution.
Lexicon DC-1 version information... Go to www.lexicon.com and click on support, knowledge base, then DC-1. You should get all the answers you need there.
Good choices in a used A/V pre-amp? I neglected to mention that I obtained my DC-1 v2.1(DTS,DD,THX,Logic7) for only $500. This is an absolute bargain by any standard of measurement. |
