Battery Powered amps and preamps The N.E.W. products offered good sound for the money. I have not had personal experience regarding reliability, but thought the amps and preamp sounded pretty good. I think the designer, (his name escapes me at the moment), is now working with Den...
Bridging Amps for Subwoofers I think it is important to use a high current amp that easily doubles into 4 ohm loads. Most subs have pretty nasty low impedance characteristics. I doubt that the manufacturer recommends 400 watts @ 8 ohms. Since you are not using the amp in a "f...
Is sound "additive"? Felthove, I am curious as to where you are going with this? Just a question, or is there some experiment in the works?
California electrical shortage audio Tsquared... get some tubes. Better sound *and* good karma to boot ;~). I'm cooking Paella on an open wood fire this weekend just to show that we don't need to be slaves to "the man".
Tubes - What do the letters mean Dekay, thanks again for another tip. I was not aware of the search feature at Audio Asylum. I'm heading to "Out Of The Closet" tomorrow, but was able to pick up 20 virgin jewel boxes from a friend of mine in Culver City. His shop is next door to a...
Some cable advice for this system If you are looking to spend less money, the Analysis Plus Oval Nine speaker cable should work well with your Maggies. Low impedance, low inductance. Very, very good for the money. No weaknesses at its price point.
Tubes - What do the letters mean Tbone, the last issue of Vacuum Tube Valley focused on 12AX7's. This may be of interest to you and help answer your specific questions.
Any good and cheap CD racks? Thanks, Dekay. It just so happens I'll be roaming Sawtelle tomorrow stocking up on Japanese foodstuff. You've got to love that sketchy two blocks of Sawtelle north of Santa Monica. Sounds like I might find other things as well.
California electrical shortage audio I live in Los Angeles and find it intersting that our public untility (DWP) has excess power and hasn't had a rate hike in more than eight years. Fewer fingers in the pie? Less raping and pillaging? Being in an all electric building, with dreaded ...
Any good and cheap CD racks? I have the Boltz CD 330. I love it. Inexpensive ($139), compact and can be expanded. Getting ready to order another one. Outstanding customer service -- ordered it and received it the next day! (Boltz is in San Diego, I'm in L.A.) I have not had a...
spade lugs The T1 spades on my Analysis Plus cables are the most robust I've seen. These are milled out of a solid block of copper and then silver plated. Big, but wonderful.
How much does your system retail for? Funny you should ask. Since I've been on the upgrade path lately I added it up the other day. I'm in at $22,000 retail for my main system (two channel). I still have some components that are 7 to 8 years old, so this has been done over time. Now I...
Amp Hum Could this just be transformer noise -- i.e. mechanical hum? I just pulled out my old Adcom GFA555 (original version from the early 80's) for use as a sub amp. Works great but has a hum that's only audible when my system is off and it is dead quie...
Will Audio Research D115 drive Hales? Have not heard the Rev 2's myself but listened to the Trans 8's driven by VAC Renaissance 70/70 MkII. No problems, sounded great. I would think that the D115 would be fine so far as power is concerned.
Psychological audio, proceed slowly JD, you smokin' banana peels? |
