which is your favorite inexpensive stereo system?
Go to Audio Advisor website and take advantage of clearance (if they have any left) of Cambridge Audio 540A or 640A amp and matching CD player, or if friend wants FM, the NAD C-720BEE Stereo Receiver. Many good bargain priced speakers available fr...

A new CDP after my Rega Apollo or a new DAC?
I've owned both the Apollo and the Cambridge 840, but none of the others you mention. I like the Apollo -- very musical for a CD player. But I kept (and still own) the 840. More solidity, more detail (but not etched or bright), more of a "you are ...
Vandersteen problem
It's a major pain getting at the drivers in a Vandy, given the way that the sock is stretched and attached over the frame. If repair is needed and you want the speaker to look good again, then you will almost certainly need a competent dealer's he...

NAD C372 Integrated or Bel Canto s300i Integrated
Mapman's suggestion to run the Benchmark into a power amp is a fine idea -- unless you want remote control. I've owned the NAD C372 -- did not keep it long. Had a big, powerful sound, but lacked something in subtlety and musicality. I don't know t...
Which would you pick between these 2 and why?
With most speakers, I'd opt for the McCormack DNA-125 -- I owned one a long while and it's one of those components that I wonder why I was ever crazy enough to sell. Works very well with a nice tube preamp.
Programming mode for Mira 3?
E-mail your question to Chad Harper at Rega's US distributor, Sound Organisation -- he is very helpful.chad@soundorg.com
which tubes for which genre ?
Just to follow up on my previous post -- if you are a complete newbie to tubes, and you just want to try them (a perfectly reasonable desire), then you might want to go with an integrated like the Primaluna Prologue 2. It's pretty much plug-and-pl...
which tubes for which genre ?
What amp do you currently use to drive the Dynaudios? I share the skepticism of some who have posted responses to you -- if you want to rock, I don't see why you're thinking of tubes. I've owned a variety of tube amps and preamps -- Conrad-Johnson...
Has anyone auditioned an Arcam CD37? Or any other
Suggestion -- use your Arcam as a transport and run it to a Benchmark DAC-1. No SACD but superb redbook performance, in my opinion.
Need some advice on buying a c-d player
Digital has come a long way since your Adcom. I'd say it's not worth repairing. Some specific suggestions for you:Rotel RCD-1072 (see Absolute Sound review)Rega Apollo (pushes your budget -- used around 700)Cambridge Audio 640CV2I have owned all o...
Onix SP3
When I owned tube equipment, I had a preamp with 12AU7 tubes. Certain brands would flash brightly when powered on. I checked with two tube vendors who assured me that the flash was nothing to worry about -- that it was a characteristic of some bra...
Rega Planet or Apollo CD Player
Which Planet? The original or the Planet 2000?I have owned all three -- original Planet, Planet 2000, and Apollo. In my opinion, the Apollo offers the best sound--musical, smooth, non-irritating. I found the 2000 model a little rough and ragged. I ...
Recommended CD player below 1.5K
If you like the basic character of the sound of your Cambridge 540, then consider the new highly reviewed Cambridge 840C. It has balanced out, so you can run it to the balanced inputs on your amp. In my experience, running balanced can make an imp...
