MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
@rauliruegas I couldn't relate to what JPM was saying until I started switching between my moving magnet (Shure, A/T), Moving iron (Grado, Stanton) and LOMC (Dynavector Ruby).  Then it became more and more apparent.  The MC was just more transpare...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
The best explanation came from J. Peter Moncreiff (IIRC) who said that moving magnet/moving iron cartirdges impart a fuzziness to the instruments that is missing from a moving coil.  The effect is subtle, but noticeable as an overall cleaner, more...
Should Speaker Manufactures provide a Frequency Response Graph?
Most garbage speakers I have seen (and heard) had 3 things in common:  Cheap connectors, a little tab to pull off the velcro attached front grille, and a frequency response graph showing flat response from 30Hz to 22kHz.
Heavy speakers: How to be able to reposition?
It's probably easier to move your chair...or knock down a wall.
How Is This Possible? Must be Counterfeits
They may be knockoffs, but they're probably much closer to the actual value of the originals.
Example of a piece o’ crap, useless review
@soix I disagree with your assessment of the sites you mentioned. I find them little more than advertising media for uber-hi-end equipment and useless, expensive audiophile jewelry. Any site that devotes two thirds of its viewing space to ads (the...
if you had this system, what would you do to make it sound the best you can
Remarkably, no one's touched on the elephant in the room:  You've got all this McIntosh gear and are using a low-fi piece of junk ADC equalizer.  First thing I would do is ditch it.  You will find that the system suddenly sounds more open, with be...
TAS. The Absolute Sound?
@jbmac75  "The Absolute Sound, Stereophile, and HiFi+ are outstanding sources of information and comparisons."  Yes...how does this $50,000 amp compare to that $60,000 amp.  Very helpful to many of us.  How many times have they reviewed a sub $500...
TAS. The Absolute Sound?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, TAS, Stereophile and other uber-high-end mags and sites are nothing but audiophile porn - enticing us to drool at the (for most of us) unattainable.
A listening test of two power amps
It's like listening to music over the telephone.  You expect a valid comparison?
TAS. The Absolute Sound?
I've often said that TAS and Stereophile, as well as many of the online only review sites have reduced themselves to audiophile porn.  Highlighting that which is only attainable by a wealthy few, leaving those of us for whom it is unattainable dro...
Improving a stone rack
I don't think your rack is affecting the sound, but if throwing a rubber blanket over it makes you feel better then go for it - it's not as wacky as the power cord or magic UEF people.
Differences in YouTube, Spotify, etc.
Qobuz.  Tidal doesn't interest me, and I want nothing to do with Apple.  In the car I listen to the free AccuRadio app.
How does a preamp die from sitting unused for a few months?
I'm guessing the power switch or the rectifier.  If there is a big capacitive element in the power supply there can be a pretty severe shock to the system when first turned on.
Audioholics
Gene knows his stuff and is unafraid to call a spade a shovel.  Ted, on the other hand, has a line of highly questionable, nonsense products for which he charges obscene amounts.  His interactions with forum members that question his products get ...
