What Horn loaded speaker/ speaker system for $10k'ish and under
I have a pair of JBL 4349's in my main 2 channel listening system which use a 12" woofer and their relatively new waveguide design with a 1.5 inch compression driver for high frequencies.  I thoroughly enjoy these speakers and the high frequency r...
What are your favorite songs or albums for illustrating a deep soundstage?
@pharaoh - Madonna's Voque used a processing called "QSound" that, if I remember correctly, was relatively new back then in '89/'90.  It used (essentially) phase cancellation techniques to get that soundstage that you are hearing.  I distinctly r...
Given an Onkyo Integra M 504 today. Worth keeping?
There are a few of us Integra fans out there yet, I bet.  Onkyo was pretty decent consumer line stuff, though the Integra series was their "high end" line up that was probably similar in performance as Adcom was back in the day. Slightly Off Topi...
Jcat usb card vs streamer
If the only mod to the normal PC is the JCAT USB card, the Lumin streamer may sound better. My post here is what I’ve experienced on my recent journey of learning about streaming audio to back up my thought.  Warning: I'm a novice and NOT any sort...
Looking for a McIntosh amp that gives a great example of the “McIntosh Sound”
It’s my opinion (which is worth nothing) that the house sound comes with McIntosh amps that have Autoformers. I’ve had non autoformer MAC amps (MC7106 and MC7100) that, while super clean, just didn’t have the house sound. All 4 of my autoformer am...
What is the forums opinion of SVS subs?
A bit off topic, but I’ll add my vote for SVS’s isolation feet. I use them for my subs and they are exceptional at isolating the sub cabinets from my first floor listening room.  Very much worth the $50 for a set of 4 feet.
McIntosh Labs delivery issues
Here are some specifics as to lead times on McIntosh that I ordered for my system:   Ordered an C53 preamp in spring of 2021.  It came 6 weeks later.  Ordered an MC312 amplifier in mid July 2021.  Arrival: Oct 9, 2021 Ordered an MVP901 in late...
McIntosh LB200?
The old light box, was, well, just a light box.  The new one has an empty compartment to store misc. stuff like your Apple TV, smaller streamer, etc.  For us McIntosh users that have a rack of McIntosh, this is a great idea to hide stuff in your r...
Sony announces three speakers
I bought my son a "lifestyle" Sony speaker similar to these things on this post this past Christmas for his dorm room.  As compared to what I had when I was a kid his age in the 1980's, these little speaker "pills" are incredible.  While nowhere n...
Concerning high end audio names in new cars
Keep in mind that car audio designers also are handcuffed by: Components prices and total system budget (I’ve lived the auto industry supply base and it’s absolutely brutal when it comes to the OEM’s and part prices) The need to minimize warrant...
Your sub experience: Easy or hard?
Slightly off topic and I apologize... It's great to be reading these threads on subwoofers and hearing how many people are embracing the use of subs.  Also, there are true audiophile subs available now which, as I alluded to in my earlier post, j...
Your sub experience: Easy or hard?
In the early ’90’s, I tried like heck to integrate a sub into my two-channel music system. All the subs I dragged home just didn’t integrate well since they were all essentially home theater subs that were non powered with passive internal low pas...
How Much Do Your Subwoofer(s) Cost Relative to Speakers
My sub to main speaker ratio is almost exactly 1 : 1 and I’m using all passive speakers. The subwoofer amp was about $1,000 more than the mains amplifier.  Add in the required outboard crossover for $4500 as well.
Audiophile Speakers for Rock, HipHop and Techno
I will put in a vote for the JBL 4349 speakers mentioned earlier in this thread. I have a pair with JBL subs and the impact those have with rock and electronic music is very enjoyable. The powered JBL 4305P monitors mentioned by @m-db are a littl...
Near field subs
@bdp24 nails it as far as woofer size and how that should be thought of.  An 18 inch driver will move very little as compared to a 10" driver producing the same output.  I'm using 18's in my system and they barely move for most playback levels.  I...
