I tried 22g western electric solid core as interconnects. 2 runs per each pos and neg leg and Switchcraft RCA plugs. Didn't like them in my system. Monochromatic- instruments sounded same with no individual color or timbre. I didn't have an intere...

I terminated my Belden interconnect cable with Canare F10 RCA plugs last night. My experience with these RCA plugs is that they need 150 hours to break in. They are in my back room system breaking in for about the next week. I may have mentioned t...
Discharging power capacitors
I should be more clear:I put a volt meter on the pos and neg poles of the capacitor and this usually drains the voltage.
Discharging power capacitors
If there is not a bleeder resistor already installed into the power supply circuit, I put a volt meter on the pos and neg leads and this usually drains the voltage. It has the advantage that you can actually see the voltage drain away, which will ...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes
Its amazing to touch a 12w Mills resistor that is dissipating only 3-4 watts and it be too hot to touch. No one tells you these things when you first start out in DIY. Best thing to do is to look at lots of schematics and see what ratings for the...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes
Charles, I would suggest a resistor at least 20 watts in this position. The heat you are dissipating could be from 6 to 8 watts. For instance the original Joe Roberts WE91a schematic calls for a 50watt resistor in this position. You could also go ...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes
Charles, The 300b cathode resistor is actually one part in my amp that I have not changed so I have no experience how different brands would affect the sound. They have to dissipate lots of heat so are pretty large.  Maybe Grannyring or Salectric ...

Sorry to hear that Charles
Why are people always getting into pissing matches because they think what they have is better
it depresses me when a thread devolves into argument. Seems to happen on Audio Asylum a lot. Its usually the same few guys who know it all and say there is only one way. I am relatively new to high end audio and learn plenty from these threads and...
Looking for really fine cables at really low price
I bought another set of Canare F10 rca plugs and am going to put them on my Belden cable and see how they sound

Well said Grannyring.

One thing I should mention about my WE16g interconnects- I built several versions with different RCA plugs and I like the Canare f10 rca plugs the best and liked them better than the Switchcraft RCA plugs. In my system l hear a much richer and ful...

Great to hear Bob. I am using WE16g both as speaker cable and interconnects for several months now and it doesn't occur to me to try anything else even though I have several very good alternatives in house. Jet
Calling all SET fans
I was just reading about the cool EE amp. It uses one of the triode sections for the input gain stage which then goes to the other triode section of the other tube to split the phase of the signal. The signal is then recombined in typical push pul...
