Natural, musical, dynamic phono preamp 700 used
Unknown Taiwan made "hi fi" scares the heck out of me. I am afraid I would not even consider such a piece, regardless of price. The other gear we are talking about here IMO is way beyond that type of Ebay hifi.

No offense to the EAR 834P (which is a decent performer) but I am afraid there are newer phono stages out there which give this aging piece of equipment more than a run for its money. Have had the opportunity to spend time with the 834p also, so t...

The stock GCPH is not so hot sounding. At least the one I heard, far from musical and tonally pleasing. Not sure about the totally modded units though like from Underwood Hifi and the like.

Thorman, thanks. Heard good things about the JLTI also but never seen one on the used market.

Much of this of course is subjective and IMO and IMHO, FWIW and the like but with so many phono pre's out there to choose from the options are overwhelming. Maybe someone knows of a little gem of a phono pre out there that falls in range of my bud...

People seem to go on and on about the Graham Slee's, anyone know if they are really "that" good?

Prcinka, you might be right but it just seems like with the vast selection of used phono preamps out there something must be out there which would suite my sonic requirements and my budget. I could be wrong though of course, wouldn't be the first ...
Thorens TD520 vs a restored Thorens TD125
Absolutely great website, I am quite familiar with it but did not realize it was yours. Fantastic resource for Thorens, we are fortunate to have access to such information. Good stuff there for fellow Thorens fans who remember when the name meant ...
Thorens TD520 vs a restored Thorens TD125
Your words then are just as here-say as mine. Do your own homework, if your research if accurate, will result in the same findings as mine regarding the models mentioned in the above post. By the way, the TD320 was not on my list. Draw your own co...
Thorens TD520 vs a restored Thorens TD125
The original bushings used in the TD124's bearings were nylon and not that hot. Those can be replaced with better sintered bronze ones though. The actual housing itself and end caps weren't too bad on the TD124's considering their age but there is...
Thorens TD520 vs a restored Thorens TD125
Both TD125 MkI and MkII had a better bearings than many models, which should be obvious anyway due to their status and placement within the line during the time of production. Examples of Thorens models with lesser quality bearings than the TD125 ...
Thorens TD520 vs a restored Thorens TD125
Artisan Fidelity will convert your TD125 to a Long Base that will be able to use 12" arms. Also, they will install those new dc motors and controllers in the 125's if you want. IMO, the TD520 was built at a time when Thorens was falling downhill f...
Arm choices for Thorens TD 150 MKll AB
I'd contact Artisan Fidelity and ask them for arm suggestions. Just look at their work modifying and restoring TD125's. Nicest TD125's I have ever seen. www.artisanfidelity.com They even get rid of the old 125 suspension and go with a non suspende...
