Amateur inherited an audio system... What you have there is very nice and would take quite a bit of money to replace, quality of sound-wise. If you like to listen to music, then you have just gotten a very nice high-fidelity system for free. That doesn't happen very often. Now this is...
Do I need a phono amp if I own an integrated amp? The 'phono amp' is an RIAA equalization and step-up stage that must take place with phono cartridge signals. Many integrated amplifiers have this built in to them. Your instruction manual or the dealer should be able to verify this for you.
Rank Stereophile, & why no Von Schweikert reviews Stereophile only reviews the products that are offered to them by the manufacturer or authorized agent for that purpose. Their website explains their review guidelines for gear, and it's about the same as that of the other audio magazines. I do kn...
When using VPI 16.5 - how do you I pretty much squirt it on while the platter is moving. The point is to make sure that there is enough to completely cover the surface of the record as you scrub. I have been cleaning records for many years and, for what it's worth, here's my thou...
Marantz 8260 vs Musical Fidelity 3.5 vs cary 308 It will be hard to beat the sound of the Rotel with any of those. I have listened to all of them in my system and I thought that the Rotel sounded at least as good as any of those mentioned and sounded much better than the Marantz. Just my opinion.
mmf-7 rubbing/friction problem ? I also have an MMF-7, but have not encountered that problem. There should absolutely be no audible rubbing sound. It could be that the spindle assembly is bent or off center. You may be able to tell more about that by looking underneath the base t...
2 pin power Chords? Cardas makes a pretty nice one that I have had good luck with on DVD players. Check with any Cardas dealer.
Loud hum/buzz from my left speaker only May simply be a bad interconnect or a bad ground connection with an interconnect. Swap out the ones on the left channel side one at a time and see if that fixes the problem before checking anything else. The make sure the speaker cables are not ca...
Liquid CD treatments? I know that there will be many differing opinions on this, but I have used Auric Illuminator since it first came out and have had good luck with it. It has not damaged the CD's and it seemed to open up the sound and improve the dynamics.
Just bought a nitty gritty, hear no difference. What cleaning fluid and brush are you using? It can make a difference. Also, if the records have been played dirty a number of times then many of the pops and clicks won't go away because the microdust may be pushed far into the grooves or even fu...
is music hall out of business? Roy Hall is sometimes out of the country for extended periods which seems to cause emails and phone calls not to be answered right away. It's a very small operation. You should get a response with time. Also, Roy relies pretty heavily on his deale...
Not another which is best but, I need help w/CDP The Rotel CD players will all handle CDR's beautifully. The sound is good and Rotel equipment is an excellent value. The are some deals on used pieces here from time to time.
Upgrades by Ezekiel I would have to second that assessment. I have three pieces of older eqipment that Randy has upgraded. I bought them with the intention of having some decent stuff to use in my workshop. The result was equipment that rivals the sound of the treasu...
does anybody still listen Absolutely. I still have every record that I have ever owned including LP's from the forties on up, and a lot of 45's that I bought as a kid when I couldn't afford an LP. Everything is represented in this collection from way back when including cl...
Records to CD ripping need basic help You might consider a freestanding CD recorder such as the Marantz/Superscope Professional series models. They turn up used pretty often, sometimes under $300.00. I can play CD's recorded on my CDR 630 in my system and can barely tell them from the... |
