Can an unused cable break in?
It is considered that some of the long time period it takes for some particular cables to burn in is the 'burn in' of Teflon dielectrics. Some cables might be 100 hrs and some might be 500 hrs. the 500hr burn in ones , when looked at closely...
Can an unused cable break in?
rvpiano OP1,748 posts06-12-2021 12:17amJea48,There is definitely an on/off push switch on the front panel of the CD t accessible by the remote controlIt could be that I have an older model. @ rvpiano What does the switch control? AC Mains power? ...
Can an unused cable break in?
Connecting to the AC Mains Supply Connect the socket on the AC Power cable to the AC Power inlet d on the rear panel of the CD t. Now connect the cable to a suitable AC power point.  There is no mains power switch on the CD t. To switch off the ...
What happened here?
Kind of looks like maybe some type of contact treatment/enhancer was sprayed into the contact body. Maybe the stuff has gone bad, deteriorated . What piece of equipment was the IEC connector used on? Maybe a power amp? Poor contact pressure will c...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
MC,I was looking at your system thread and read this: Stewart Marcantoni taught me it all begins at the wall. The System begins with 4 ga wire at the panel. This 4 ga brings 240v power to a step-down transformer located just beneath the system. N...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
millercarbon9,434 posts 06-03-2021 11:27pm I would also recommend grounding the ground to ground, and then grounding the Earth to ground. You never can be too sure, so I would ground all the grounds to all the pipes as well. Because, like, they g...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
Can each rod individually be connected to ground in the main panel? Sure. Especially for your situation. Both rods ground wires would connect to the service entrance neutral conductor neutral bar..
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
lowrider574,353 posts    06-03-2021    3:04pm Question: why are two ground rods used?Hi @lowrider57 From one of my above posts: 06-02-2021 8:24am Minimum required number of driven ground rods for the main service panel technically is one, * IF *...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
For a sub panel in an out building, separate building, a ground rod (Grounding Electrode) is required. The ground rod is connected to the equipment ground bar in the sub panel creating a grounding electrode system for the separate building. For a s...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
lowrider574,352 posts 06-02-2021 10:37am @jea48 @mesch I have a new service panel and a subpanel. When the sub was installed, a second ground rod was added. Two different electricians installed the panels, both said two ground rods were required...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
And also the fact that I may not need the sub connected to ground rod. Like I said I would not recommend it. It will not improve the sound of your audio system. In fact it may degrade the sound. Lightning loves an auxiliary grounding electrode th...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
Just to add to why a sub panel(s) may be needed. For one because a 42 circuit main panel (If main breaker is in the panel 40 spaces/circuits for branch circuits) isn’t enough spaces/circuits for all the circuits need for the home. I have a sub pa...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines
Each panel will have an 8’ ground rod, check with electrician for code. If the sub panel is located in the same building as the main service panel a ground rod is not required for the sub panel. Yes per the NEC a driven ground rod can be connecte...
Help! Cure for transformer hum?
Items that can cause DC on the mains are, Dimmers, Hair Dryers, portable electric heaters, LED lights, CFL lights, electronic ballasts, and cheaply made switch mode power supplies. Here is a quote from Nelson Pass: Nelson Pass If you are experie...
Help! Cure for transformer hum?
@ snilf I don’t think your problem is DC offset on the mains. The power transformer in the NAD 7600 looks like an EI, not a Toroidal. As a rule an EI is not affected by DC offset on the ac Mains.I would carry the receiver to the kitchen. Place it...
