Great female voices Julie Miller +1Definitely mannered, but if you listen to female vocal driven Americana, "Broken Things," is an excellent choice.A very different off the beaten path voice is Shannon McNally
Salk HT3, SF Cremona M, Magnepan 3.7 or ML Ethos? I wonder if you need to listen more; that's a pretty diverse group of speakers! For example, I think the HT3 tends much more to the cool and the Cremona more to the warm; I don't see them as celebrating the same sonic virtues, though from your des...
Is Vinyl Worth It "But I would say if you can't hear the difference, just keep your iPhone and ear buds in, you don't need to be spending big bucks on audio gear."Often, where there's an abundance of abuse, there's a shortage of evidence.
Help - new house - new setup? Don't think of your room as a problem, think of it as an opportunity to try some stupid big speakers. :)I like a couple of Douglas' suggestions: the Montanas and the Legacy Whispers. If I had a huge space, I might very well do Montanas. There's a l...
Is Vinyl Worth It Although I have not lived with vinyl since my teenage record player days, I have listened to numerous megabuck vinyl rigs at shows (as much as 500k), and heard some of these rigs with vinyl and digital, and though the vinyl often sounded very nice...
What's best bookshelf speaker for an 8x10 room? North Creek is another vendor, like Guru, who voices speakers to work close to boundaries, often a very useful attribute in small spaces. They are very good.
Bob Weir documentary on Netflix Mateored, you have my permission to continue not being a huge fan of the band. :)
Hostility from manufacturers Yes, Klaus very generously supports used buyers of his fine amps.
How important is a good rack? Keep the reports of careful ABs indicating dramatic differences coming! ;)John
How important is a good rack? Thanks Dougdeacon, that's helpful; I can certainly see why racking matters for turntables.I'd be very interested to hear accounts of people doing serious ABs comparing a "merely competent" rack (say like my homebrew rod and block) with a SOTA rack...
How important is a good rack? Once you reach the threshold of isolation sufficient to keep your TT (or CDP) from skipping with light room vibrations, I wonder.I'd expect to see a very gentle slope for increasing returns on expenditure for racks. My own rack is brass rod and but...
Amps for Egglestonworks Andra II or Sophia 2 I've had good and bad luck in my room with *both* auditioned and unheard equipment. Lot's of us around here take chances without listening first: doesn't have to be a disaster if the piece is in demand enough, or the price you get is low enough, t...
Music for testing equipment speakers, headphones.. I think one might well learn from a detailed list like the above, with notes as to what other are hearing for comparison. But what Zd said deserves emphasis: at moderate (and even not so moderate) pricepoints, it is difficult to craft a system that...
who has the best recommended product reviews I enjoy John Atkinson. Good bit of the techie measurement stuff over my head, but he gives reasons for his judgments, and is not afraid to disagree with other reviewers and be (somewhat) critical.I'm not in the "audio mags suck" camp; they are ent...
DeVore Orangutan 96 an upgrade over DeVore 9? Have not lived with them but have heard both. I'd be rather surprised if you didn't find the 96 a considerable upgrade over the 9. IME, the 93 comes pretty close to the 96, and I would chose it over the 96 on grounds of bang fer buck.John |
