Selling off Tubes for Solid State, A Cooler Love Story?
I had a PL HP integrated and other tube amps.  I now have a Bob Carver Crimson 275.  To me, it bests the PL line, is less expensive, and runs super cool.  I'm in Chicagoland so heat in the winter is welcome, but in my third floor listening room I ...
Limited Vinyl Reissues from Target--yes the store
@elliottbnewcombjr , Woah!  I never knew that recording existed.  I'm just trying to take pleasure in the fact that a major US retailer is now selling this stuff.  It's like 1985 or 1975 again.

Good to hear Big_Greg!  There are some gems out there, and some mediocre stuff.  I discovered them the same way too.

I went with the Benz Micro LP-S.  I'll need 40 hours of break in per Benz.  Things sound just great out of the box. Setup was not too bad.  I did, however, have locate my supplemental tonearm counterweights as this guy is beefy at 16.2 grams.  Th...

Thank you all!  On the retip option, that's definitely a potential.  I'm probably a year away from that (minimum).  I don't dislike retyping altogether but it's not typically ideal.  That said, I'd probably do it just to keep the Kiseki in the st...

Thank you LewM and Raul!  Yes, I want to retain some warmth; I don't want it to be too clinical or analytical.  Detail is great but not at the expense of warmth for me.  Raul, I have bought from that seller before.  He's awesome. Quick question-...

Dodgealum, can you describe your experience and what you compared it to?     Same thing rsf507.  Any of the SoundSmith seems very, very broad.  Can you describe any of their sonic signatures for me?   Thank you!
Doge 8 Clarity: 12AT7 replacement for phono stage
I did have some success lowering the hiss, but it's still there.  Now, let me say this.  It's not a problem when playing music. And, I haven't had my Manley Chinook back in the system since breaking in the Doge.  I run a Kiseki Purpleheart MC car...
Where the heck are all these manufacturers coming from!
Heavy, TheCarpathian is 100%. I note that each year you are "too lazy" to cash in those coins, you lose %/points on inflation. Now back to the program...
Sounds like a hot stamper! Jackpot Records, Willie Nelson, "....and then I wrote"
Wow, T Bone Burnett released something on John Fahey's label? That is cool.

Yes, it's top secret and I totally get why.  I mean, my spouse doesn't want to know how much time and resources I've put into finding the best (to me) pressing of Lou Rawls & Les McCann, Ltd, They Call It Stormy Monday."  It's silly really.  I...
MC cart recommendation max $2000 for 1200G stock
I have the GAE (essentially the same, just anniversary edition).  I've tried the ART 9 and a Kiseki Purpleheart (reissue).  Both are wonderful on this table.
Vinyl Buyers: The Premium Price Vinyl v. Cheap Vinyl Ratio
millercarbon, what town are you in?  Day's drive from Chicago?  I'm on my way! Hot stampers are everywhere but hard to pin down. Better Records is an interesting idea.  Their labor and experience set the price.   Reissues.  It depends.  Seems t...
If a " system " cannot do this, I move on........
Welcome back Mr. D.! I, too, am beholden now to horns.  And like you, I'm at a spot where the quality of recording takes things to a special place.  That said, unlike, you, I can enjoy a Jethro Tull recording--not picking on you...I've had all so...
Tube Amp, Preamp upgrades -- what did you do that improved your units?
I agree with granny again.  Miflex are really great caps but they are forward (not harsh though) in their presentation.  I've never heard an ODAM sound congested.  At the risk of sounding VCap biased, maybe the Odam was revealing something in the ...
