Need Kt88s Genelex? or Shuguang?
I think you'll be very happy with the Genelex tubes.
Can anyone tell what model Melos this amp is?
I can't answer your question, but fwiw, the former owners of Melos, George Bischoff and Mark Porzilli are now the brains behind The Memory Player, at novaphysicsgroup.com. The Nova web site is truly bizarre, but the Memory Player is truly an amazi...
Need Kt88s Genelex? or Shuguang?
I'm extremely happy with the KT-88 Genelex Gold Lion reissue. I've had them for about 6 months. They're great tubes, top to bottom. My amp is a Music Reference RM-200. Solid bass, mellifluous midrange, excellent on up, very nice all around. They'r...
What is a $500- $700 power cord for subwoofer
I like Shunyata Taipan, if you can find one used. Or even the lesser line is outstanding.
Kimber 4TC Bi-Wire Question
I'd agree with Nick. 8TC gets all the coverage, but I don't hear much difference between 4TC and 8TC. If a speaker is made for bi-wiring, it will usually sound better bi-wired. This kind of thing is system dependent, but imho you're not giving up ...
Do new NOS tubes need break-in/running-in?
It is a P.I.T.A. to open the preamp, but while you're at it, you may find it interesting to try to decipher all of the codes. So here's how to read the rest of the codes. In the second row, there are usually 4 characters, which signify as follows,...
Ground Loop Issues
If you have a cable box connected to the system, try a Jensen VRD-1FF Cable TV Ground Loop Isolator. See www.jensentransformers.com. After going around and around, that solved my problem -- the problem originated with the TV cable. The Jensen item...
Genelex Gold Lion KT-88 reissued tubes
I have the Genalex KT-88 reissues in my RM-200 and they work beautifully. A big improvement over the original tubes, as promised. Mine were factory matched, too.
Do new NOS tubes need break-in/running-in?
I have rolled small signal tubes quite a bit, especially 6DJ8-E88CC-6922-E188CC-7308 types, and found that a tube's "flavor" shows more or less immediately, in minutes, but the flavor usually develops, so to speak, over the next 5-6 hours; sometim...
KimberKable BiFocal-XL or Kimber Select 3033
I faced this same question and bought the 3033 with Kimber Select jumpers. I didn't have the opportunity to try both, so obviously take all of this with a grain of salt, but here's what went into my decision. My dealer spoke with Dick Diamond at K...
Genelex Gold Lion KT-88 reissued tubes
I ordered a quad of the Gold Lions today from cteche.com, which operates an eBay store. The price was $195 for a platinum factory-matched quad. According to New Sensor, "platinum matching process consists of a 24 hour tube burn-in period followed ...
Power Cord Review
So many cords, so little time. . .
Ground for Cable TV Hummmmmmmmmmm
Check the jensentransformers.com website. It has a comprehensive diagnostic. But, to cut to the chase, chances are the ground loop is coming from the CATV line. Jensen makes a $50 isolation transformer for the CATV line that has proven to be $50 w...
6922 tube rolling recommendations
Run a search in the archives of the "tubes" section of audioasylum.com and you'll have more opinions than you know what to do with. Also have a look at "Joe's Tube Lore" in the FAQ section. But it's all equipment/system sensitive, so ymmv with any...
Best Vibes in Jazz
Milt Jackson with the MJQ! "Django" on Prestige is just a great record (OJC vinyl reissue is quite good btw), but since this is an audiophone forum, check out just about any of the Atlantic releases (most were engineered by Tom Dowd) and also inte...
