Piano and Trumpet can sound bright I played trombone in a ton of small groups and big bands - even large salsa bands. When a trumpet player wants to, he can burst your eardrum (although trombone can technically produce more volume, it's not as harsh). That being said, Miles can hav...
Piano and Trumpet can sound bright If you're up for a speaker change, you could certainly change that quality in the sound. However, you'll change pretty much everything else too. I'd try replacing the silver streaks with something that's all copper - there are tons of options.
Analog system under 500 palyer and phono pre-amp With the built in interconnects, I wouldn't bother spending more than $200. I'd just spend $99 and get the MF V-LPS new. It's been on sale at needle doctor, audio advisor, and even Amazon. Check out Stereophile's review.
Looking to upgrade my setup. Getting a Peachtree iDecco is not a bad place to start. It has a nice DAC, headphone amp, preamp, iPod dock, and a decent 30W stereo power amp in one cabinet. It doesn't have a ton of power, but makes a great starting point. Get that and speakers ...
Analog system under 500 palyer and phono pre-amp If you're not trying to blow the bank, get the used OBH-8SE or the X-LPS, or even just a new Musical Fidelity V-LPS ($99-119 new). You can spend the rest of your budget on upgrading the cartridge. Having used an old technics with the V-LPS, I'll s...
Speaker cable advice I've been extremely pleased with the Silver Resolution from Signal Cable. They have a 30 day in home return policy, so you could test them out and send them back if you decide you'd prefer to look around. Four foot bi-wire runs would cost ~220. Yo...
Best Classical to "broaden" listening arena? I definitely agree with Uru975 on trying out a few things on Pandora first. It's a good way to narrow down a style. I used to play trombone, guitar, and piano and was exposed to different composers/styles through the other players in the bands/orc...
Ugrading B & W Matrix 803's Golden Ear's Triton Two is a tower with a powered sub in each tower. I've heard them, and they sound pretty good. They weren't as crystal clear as I would have liked, but I heard them immediately after listening to Magnepan 3.7's. They would defin...
Ugrading B & W Matrix 803's The 803's are worth around $1600. My dad recently picked up a set for ~1000, but you should be able to expect more. As far as new suggestions go, it really depends on the rest of the system. What's your setup?
Best Speaker under $3K - New or Used This will be on the low end of the budget, but I'll thow in a vote for a used set of Martin Logan Aerius i. If you're concerned about imaging and clarity, you won't find much better, and you should be able to find them for under $1000. It would fr... |
