Advice on choosing speakers Matt_lane - Since you mention your concerns about the B&W Nautilis 802 and you seem to place emphasis on high spls and bass output. The only dynamic speaker I would recommendwould be wilson audio watt/puppy. Otherwise you should look at some t...
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody Amandarae - Are you sure that you are using the 7518 or is it the 7581? The 7518 only has a 2.5v heater and if that is what you are using you might want to get the fire extinguisher handy. You are right about different voltage requirements but the...
Clayton Amp owners - do you have a hum? Tburn - Sorry that I had missed the part about the you lifting the ground already. Did you try it in only one amp at time, though? I mention this because I had Bryston 7B-ST monoblocks in the house for an extended audition once. And I encountered ...
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody Fiddler - I'll give the 6106 a week at 24/7 and see how it does. The actual articulation of the notes from start to finish is fine and this is the most important thing. There is no question that it is a very good rectifier, but at this point it ha...
Clayton Amp owners - do you have a hum? Sounds like a ground loop hum. Break the ground in one of the amps. If there isn't a switch on the amp for it just replace the power cord with one that doesn't have a grounding prong.
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody I just measured my system with Tact RCS. This is in-room response and no my room is not an anocheic chamber. Previous rectifier was a gz33. The current rectifier is a bendix 6106. Output below 300hz is reduced by a few db. There is a hump in respo...
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody I got the Bendix 6106 in the Cabernet. It is more than a little tipped-up. The bass is even less than that of the Sylvania Vt-231 with a gz34 or gz33 rectifier. And I have the Sylvania 6SN7GT 1952 tall-boys, which are well known for their bass, in...
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody Whoopadeedoo - So tell me more about your impressions of the tung-sol 6SN7GT round-plates. How do they compare to the RCA grey-glass and Sylvania vt-231. I have a few pair lying around but I haven't had them in the system for a couple of years. So...
The most detailed speaker cable?? I think too often people listen to detailed cables and immediately label them "bright" without listening closer. A detailed cable is one that preserves the signal fed to it. The same cables able to properly convey chimes or the brush of a cymbal i...
Preamp Deal of the Century Whatever happened to Asa on this thread? Hope his health is good and that he is enjoying the music.
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody Whoopadeedoo - Are your Visseaux 6L6G's the ST glass or tall skinny glass? I got quite a few of the latter but I've only seen picturers of the former. I rolled them in my Sauvignon a long time ago. I used Sylvania 5932 dual plate for about 18 mont...
b&w N801 and sim audio titan5.1 Tongjw - The Titan will drive the N801 fine. But unless your system is for home theatre I would recommend the Sim Audio W5 which is more musical. The the amps are very similar in design except the Titan has global negative feedback. The W5 has no ...
Preamp Deal of the Century Question about the WE 350B used as a regulator in Supratek preamps. A lot of people have commented on improved base response. I am curious to know if anyone has tried to measure the enhanced freq response. I particular would that be the lowest oct...
How to control speed when using Exact Copy Laurentgilles - go to Drive options and then the offset/speed tab. Speed options will vary some according to the drive that you have but EAC allows 6 options for my drive. From 4.0x to the maximum potential.
Tally up best preamplifier ever Supratek Cabernet, the best I've heard according to my preferences. But I haven't heard everything out there. |
