PS Audio Power Plant P3 to P12 I have been very pleased with my PowerPlant 3 so I have no interest in switching to another brand. I really don't want this thread to devolve into another objective vs subjective debate. As an electronics engineer, I think measurements have th...
The problem with absorption panels- it kills the fine details As many responders to your previous thread mentioned, you need a combination of diffusion and absorption to achieve optimal results. Absorption panels can be very helpful if used judiciously and appropriately.
diffuser or absorption panels, which would you choose? My experience matches what others have said. Too much absorption will make the music sound dead, but some absorption is likely necessary. I tried the GIK Diffusor/Absorbers behind my speakers to start with and found the sound to be kind of flat. ...
Audio Note Amplifier Kits Nice bikes. IF makes an excellent steel frame. I don't own any steel frame bikes at the moment - mostly high-end carbon road race bikes and a couple gravel bikes. I've got to pare down my stable at some point. Here's a decent book to start with....
Audio Note Amplifier Kits @johnah5 - I own a lot of bikes (I own an e-commerce cycling business), but the one in the photo is one of my oldest - a Serotta ti with S&S couplers, SRAM red etap. This is the one I usually take to Europe since it fits in a small 24"x24"x10"...
Audio Note Amplifier Kits @charles1dad - Thanks Charles. I used the AN non-magnetic Silver Tantalums for all the parts in the audio path. These are the white-colored ones in the photo above.
Audio Note Amplifier Kits @changeout - I bought the upgraded resistors/caps and the TentLabs DHT filament supplies from HiFiCollective.com. The Jensen line input transformers came from PartsExpress.com. I built the heater supply for the input tube using a pmillet PCB I b...
DA Krell not nearly as good as DA DA, or was it? In the late 80s, early 90s, I had a pair of Krell MDA-300 monoblocks. I really liked them but they generated a lot of heat. I replaced them with an FPB-300 which I also liked a lot. I owned this amp for over 20 years until it started having proble...
Roon Nucleus vs generic NUC You’re not missing anything. If you want, you can put your NUC in a fanless case. Otherwise, no difference.
USB reclocker vs DDC? A couple of years ago, I added a Denafrips Gaia to a Terminator DAC and switched from AES3 to I2S. To start out, I used an $12 HDMI cable from Amazon. This provided a very noticeable improvement over the AES3 connection. I later upgraded to a Tu...
USB reclocker vs DDC? Most DDCs include a reclocker, but many DDCs include a USB input, but not a USB output. They will connect to the DAC using SPDIF, AES3, Toslink or I2S. A USB reclocker, on the other hand, generally has just USB in and out.
High powered single end 300b recommendations This doesn't seem like a good fit. You can get 15-16W from a parallel 300B SET, but unless you listen at very modest volumes and have a fairly small room, an amp like this is probably not going to meet your expectations.
Audio Note Amplifier Kits @johnah5 - I've heard some Audio Note amps at audio shows, but not in my system. I think the kits deliver similar performance to the lower-end AN commercial units, but none of the kits (that I'm aware of) have the silver wire transformers and the ...
Audio Note Amplifier Kits @vinylvalet @charles1dad - Thanks for the compliments. If anyone is interested, I created a build thread on the SH forums. https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/ank-300b-interstage-monoblocks.1112018/#post-27958720
Audio Note Amplifier Kits @charles1dad - When I first finished the ANK amps, I was using GR-Research NX-Oticas. These cross over to powered subs at around 70Hz. The 300B amps provided a bit more depth and width to the sound stage, a more natural decay, and a smoother midra... |
