Merrill tables
i'd love to hear any turntable that is 'lightyears' ahead of another. the price is lightyears ahead for sure, even with the rollback.
How did you choose your equipment?
i try to buy vintage used gear that is in great condition and i think is cool. no other criteria....the collector's curse.
Need cartridge advice for turntable
i'll say it again...buy an AT150mm for a couple hundered bucks and leapfrog over an ocean of so called high end cartridges that sell up to(and over)1k....and yes, I have more than a few of those too.
Stones: Sticky FIngers.....
its still pretty easy to find 'seventies' pressings from the US and Japan in mint condition...with mint covers too, for under 100 bucks. the mofi version is out there(no improvement on the others) for much more. the more recent japanese CD's are g...

Upgrading the wires of my turntable

if you go to an audio technica mm...an AT150..you are going to get a level of sound you won't believe with your kyrocera. the audio technica can be found for around 200 to 250 bucks and will compete with lots of cartridges in the over 1k range. th...

When did Musical Fidelity start making stuff in...
the only thing worse than a flood of products from a territory that dismisses human rights and intellectual properties, is the flood of products which are being marketed as 'name brands', or silently sold as if they are still what 'they were', and...
Upgrading the wires of my turntable
if your cables are not distressed somehow, a change of cartridge will probably make a bigger difference in sound. I've had an oracle rewired, and though it made me 'feel' like i had updated it somehow, the sonics didn't really change for the bette...
Repairing older amps
classe is excellent
Mac 6500 w/ MC275?
its certainly not the amp. sounds like a speaker placement issue. the 275 is great too, but i don't think you need to switch.
some 70's and 80's receivers seem to be popular
tandberg-marantz-mac-revox-sansui-luxman-yamaha etc all still sound awfully good, and still kick ass for the money. the phono sections in many are as good as many new high end phono stages. they are popular because they deliver.
