First Steps into Computer Audio
Cerrot - I guess I'm missing your logic here. Though I can understand that firewire delivers more information, faster than USB 1.1 (I'm pretty sure most USB DACs are using the older version), if it's delivering the info to a buffer where it is the...
Help gaining knowledge on SET
I'd agree with Ralph: if you are using 300B's in a SET amp(s) putting out about 8-9 watts then your 92db speakers would be underpowered at realistic volumes with most dynamic music in anything but nearfield. That said, I listen nearfield in a mode...
Help gaining knowledge on SET
Before you respond I have had a 300b and that is definitively not my cup-o-tea. You have a 300B? What do you mean...you have an amp that uses 300B tubes? SET...parallel...or?? You need to be a whole lot more specific there...all amps that use 300B...
Replaced La Scala with...?
My roommate in the army had a pair while I had both Heresys and Fortes. IMO, either the Heresys or the Fortes, and especially the Fortes sounded much better. I'd imagine that you didn't hear those LaScala's at their best then. I've owned two pairs...
whats the best amp for klipsch lascala 2?
I like tubes with Scalas, but from your list I'm guessing you're avoiding them(?). I've tried them with an Aleph 5 and preferred various tube options to that combination, but the Aleph 30 and 3 are reportedly better than the 5. Best thing to impro...
Replaced La Scala with...?
I've owned two pairs of LaScalas, and, as Larryken suggested, modded the crap out of them to get them to sound the way I preferred. They do a whole lot of things really well, but also could stand for a whole bunch of improvements to take them to t...
Wall Hugging w/Imaging & Depth?
There are more factors than just the speaker design that will determine the qualities you're looking for. Room treatments could help the cause tremendously. Electronics will have impact on soundstage as well. Consider also an asymmetric corner pla...
Most overlooked part of your system?
on a serious note - I think all audiophiles should read Oliver Sach's recent book "Musicophilia". I started reading that at my sister in-law's place over the holidays. I made a note to pick up a copy. Another good read on the same / similar subjec...
Favorite Female vocals that give you goose bumps
I would wager that JJ has played many organ recitals also. She's also got numerous inspirational videos available for those of you who like to tune their own organ.
Your Favourite Remix Albums/CDs
Beatles - Love (X2)Rickie Lee Jones - Naked Songs (OK not technically a remix)
SET owners, need help with Rectifier tube
You might try writing to Israel. He'd certainly know the best rectifier tube for his amp. With my own Quicksilver SET amps which are also a 300B SET with tube rectification (5AR4's in my case), changing the rectifier definitely has an effect on th...
300B Tubes
They should handily best your Shuguangs, if my experience is similar. I use Quicksilver SET monos and the difference in those two tubes rendered two different amps entirely. I cannot speak to any comparisons to KR tubes - sorry. I tried Sophia Mes...
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie?
This is what I found interesting. I was in the front row and saw the clip indicators on the Bryston 28B 1000 wpc monoblocks light up. I used to have Bryston 7B St monoblocks on B&W 801's and never clipped them. The 28B's have an enourmous amou...
How to convert Class A/B amp to pure Class A
I believe the guy Undertow is referring to is Jon Soderberg of Vintage Amp Repair who used to be an engineer at Threshold.
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie?
Here are some pictures of those minis:Isn't that "Close View" a shot of the computer version? It sure looks like the one they did not play and passed around to show as being for computer-based systems. Thanks for the pics, regardless. Puerto - I d...
