Redefining "Universal Player" I've also never owned a player with a digital input and don't understand the expectation for one. They are certainly the exception rather than the rule, and I can only think of a few off the top of my head that actually offer that option. If you a...
My office setup I'm pretty sure that you could také the preamp out of the loop in both scenarios. With your P3 just use the phono pre directly to your active speakers. Most active speakers have a pre section or some sort of attenuation already in them. Try it and...
My office setup I'd completely agree with Sfar regarding making an improvement in the digital conversion (the DAC in the AE leaves a whole lot to be desired). But if you are hearing "distortions" I wonder if it isn't the amp(s) in those active speakers? Why are y...
Mastersound Amps. Anything similar you'd recommend I've owned Quicksilver 300B SET amps for about six years and love them. I have not heard Mastersound so cannot compare. The Quicksilver amps have huge power supplies and are wired point-to-point by hand. Bottom end is excellent, especially for a 3...
Amp for Soliloquy 5.3i floor standing speaker? The Soliloquy 5.3's do not like tubes in the power department. My experience would entirely contradict that statement. I've owned 5.3i's and have helped two friend's build systems around them. They're great speakers for the money and it's a shame t...
Can you point me to CDs with awesome stage? As Timrhu points out, the Qsound recordings are rather unique. If you are looking for conventionally mixed music with amazing soundstage; Tom Waits "Swordfishtrombone", Trio Chemirani "Qalam Kar", The Beatles "Love", Cowboy Junkies "The Trinity Se...
Oppo 981 vs 983 Which Has Better Picture Quality? Unfortunately I have no other choice since my projector and AV processor/amps are all obsolete with component and DVI only, and I don't think I'll change both the projector and amps anytime too soon since they are bought new 3 years back. You shou...
Oppo 981 vs 983 Which Has Better Picture Quality? I was correct, RE: Component outputs - from the Oppo site:Component video output with progressive scan (Up-converting over component output is only available for unencrypted DVD discs such as home video and consumer-created contents. Most commerci...
Oppo 981 vs 983 Which Has Better Picture Quality? PS VERY IMPORTANT if you are expecting a superior picture quality from the 983 - check with Oppo if the component outputs you intend to use will yield an upsampled image. I seem to recall that upsampling was only via the HDMI output. I could be mi...
Oppo 981 vs 983 Which Has Better Picture Quality? Ryder - If you're interested in a new 983 one of the last Oppo dearlers to have any was Projector People. Currently they are showing it in stock, but I'd call to double check. Also, Oppo occasionally has refurbs available. The target pricepoint on...
Oppo 981 vs 983 Which Has Better Picture Quality? I can't compare to the 981 as I haven't tried it, but I can tell you in my experience the 983 has a clearly superior picture to the 980. I also had better results with the digital output on the 983. Short of the Panasonic Blu Ray player I tried ou...
The Room, not us, determines our speaker choices Saw a good flick last night called, "Bottle Shock"There's a great line in that film that comes to mind reading the all too familiar "pass the Grey Poupon" rhetoric I read here often. Youre a snob, and it limits youPut a pair of great speakers in ...
what is the best Holly Cole CD? Temptation, but I'm a big Tom Waits fan so I love the material. She does a great job with it.
The Room, not us, determines our speaker choices as an example, an mg 20.1 in a small room sounds better than any book shelf speaker in a small room, because i don't like box speakers. i can respect some brands , but i can't live with them very long. their faults annoy me.A close friend tried to...
Good upsampling DAC w. HDMI Berkley Audio's Alpha DAC has BADA encrypted input which does allow for future support of HDMI (whatever that means). I think it may be a bit above your price point though. |
