Animated Movies
Jaybo - good call. I remember seeing Fantastic Planet when it first came out. My recomendation was neither computer nor rotoscope, BTW. Another great one is any of the Wallace & Grommet films. Also, anything by The Brothers Quay.
Animated Movies
My all-time favorite is a live-animation feature which may be really a matter of taste as it is perhaps a more artistic approach than anything mentioned above. I would not highlight it as having amazing audio or video qualities, but it most certai...
Mastersound 300B and bass
Now I have to start a different thread on how to convince my girlfriend to let me set it up in between the speakers where I can see it glow :) Maybe I need to remind her that she used to trap fireflies in a glass as a kid. And the 300B ones she do...
Mastersound 300B and bass
I'd echo what JohnK mentions about transformers: The Quicksilver amps I had were built with huge, hand-wound custom transformers, and, as I said, they did pretty damn good in the bass department compared to other 300B SET amps I've heard. The few ...
Apple Macintosh Music System
I use Mac as well. A few suggestions, and you may not like one: I've done quite a bit of experimenting and listening comparisons. I am only suggesting this because you stated you want to squeeze out every bit of musical pleasure for those zeros an...
Mastersound 300B and bass
I profoundly enjoyed a pair of Quicksilver 300B mono amps for over 6 years. They had great bass compared to other 300B amps I've heard and tried out in my own system, and I really didn't miss the full-monty when I was listening to them since the r...
what temperature setting for how long?
You see what I mean, it's like the "open sesame" of A.P.!? My Blueberry Nights....Natalie with who other than Norah, come away with me, Jones. My oh my! What did you think, Albert? I haven't seen it yet, but the preview was worth watching just for...
what temperature setting for how long?
A.P.'s too busy making love to his Korean preamps to bother with these forums, unless someone mentions Natalie Portman...now watch, he's bound to show up. The only reason I'm thinking Dry mount press is that it has the pressure and heat built in. ...
what temperature setting for how long?
I've never done records, but being a photographer I've worked extensively with dry mount presses which are intended for mounting and flattening prints. They use heat around and can be adjusted through a range of around 150-275 degrees as I recall....
Labeling Mistake and Preconceptions when listening
I'd heartily second, "Achirana" (misspelled above). Outstanding release, start to finish - in every way a superb recording. I'm especially fond of the cut on there titled, "The Spell" which prominently features Andersen's bass.
Daedalus
You and I are in the same boat, Dodgealum. Probably like many here we have to use what we have the best we know how. The tube trap reference was referring to your runaround of using, perhaps unknowingly, substitutes for actual tube traps. Your cor...

Another thing a speaker needs to do to "disappear" is recreate a soundfield wherein the speakers do not cue your ear as to their location. This my DA-1.1's do very well but are not in the same league as the best I've heard in this regard. Dodgeal...
Technics SP 10 Mk II a
In your last thread you were given the names of two folks who've done extensive mods on their SP10 Mk II's. Have you contacted those folks? Seems to be they'd be great resources to answer those questions directly:Albert PorterSteve DobbinsSomeone ...
Pro's and con's of different tube amps?
It's certainly good to do some research and get some kind of general grasp of the subject on paper. But your best bet for actually starting to associate sounds or a general sonic signature, with those words on paper, is to start listening to vario...
What DAC chip used in Berkeley Audio Design DAC?
I believe that the sound card in that is by Lynx. Additional (very opinionated) comments, some good interior pictures, and additional links can be found on this Romy the Cat thread.
