Songs you use when auditioning gear @nitrobob The Cars and Supertramp are definitely worthy.
Songs you use when auditioning gear @bigtwin thanks for the suggestion I will take a listen.
Songs you use when auditioning gear @mapman yes I was quite surprised by it especially the bells! I think my setup handled it reasonably well at least as far as I can tell, I could still clearly make out all the different instruments and their place in the soundstage.
Songs you use when auditioning gear @simonmoon that’s an interesting perspective. I don’t listen to much classical but I have been diving into all types of Jazz though. Any suggestions for well recorded Jazz titles?
Songs you use when auditioning gear @soix @hilde45 that’s an interesting take on Gaucho, and I can’t say you’re wrong. I think it’s great musically but you’re right about the recording and I listen to it a good bit so maybe that’s why I use it sometimes. Kamakiriad is a great...
Songs you use when auditioning gear @hilde45 I listened to some David Chesky last night specifically Graffiti Jazz. Not sure if that’s the correct Chesky but it was a good album. @mapman that version of 1812 Overture is really good. I don’t think I have the room to do service the...
Best Covers @capojacko that reminds me that “The Ghost of Tom Joad” by RATM is outstanding as well. I also really like “Night and Day” by U2
Building your music digital music collection I have hundreds of CDs I ripped and I’ve downloaded many files from Qobuz and HDTracks with the intention of doing just what you are planning. That quickly lost steam once I started to stream with Qobuz and Tidal. I now almost exclusively stream...
Berkeley Audio Design and MQA? Like everything else in life some folks have integrity and some don’t. Sometimes people suck.
Mcintosh DAC1 Don’t know directly about the two you mention but the Denafrips Pontus II is clearly better than the DAC1 module in my MA8900. Was it worth the ~2k for the unit, interconnects and power cord? To me yes, better soundstage, imaging and dynamics. ...
Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio I’ll throw out British Audiophile, I enjoy his videos.
Quick System Building Pop Quiz: I’d go for option 2. I’m happy with my main system right now and I’d love to try some different gear. I’d really like to try tubes and some horn loaded speakers or some other high efficiency speaker.
Adding a sub Oh and I would recommend getting two. I’ve done both the single and dual subs. Two is much better, better soundstage, imaging dynamics. It’s weird but two seem to make everything better. I’m sure there are folks on this forum who can explain i...
Adding a sub I have a couple of Rel T5x subs that are great but don’t go as low as the SVS SB 1000 does. While I’ve never owned one, like @soix I’ve never heard of the transformer whine in them. Rhythmik subs get a lot of recommendations as well and are in ...
Floorstanding speaker experiences/recommendations in the $12-25k range Agree with those suggesting subs before dropping $15-$20k on new floor standers. A well integrated sub that goes to 20Hz sounds like the ticket and much cheaper. If it turns out not to work for you sell the subs and move on to a floor stander. |
