Rebuilding Ruark Talisman Mk1 Speakers`
How are the woofer surrounds? Foam often decays and needs replacement. Crossovers should still be good. Any speaker stored for years will require some running-in at a moderate SPL to loosen up the moving parts of the drivers!
Is Luxman a poor man's D'Agostino ?
I found a Luxman (Alpine era) integrated amp at my local Goodwill. $25! Alas, it always went into protection when I tried to use it! Beautifully made and weighing a ton! I stupidly left it behind when I moved south!

A Marantz is a poor man's Luxman!

I still have a Luxman preamp from the Alpine era. Maybe I should dig it out of storage and give it a listen! Bet it sounds good!
Help: Anthem STR dac vs Bryston BDA-1 and others - sounds the same to me
The Audio Critic did a comparison between a Sony Discman and the first Theta DAC (designed by Mike Moffat). Electronics were by Boulder and speakers were Quad 63's. The result? No difference! Today's situation remains the same! Read my above post!

The proliferation of ever-increasingly expensive DACs is a clever marketing ploy to get the insecure and gullible to spend more money!
Are your current amps and other gear the best you've ever had?
I had an original Futterman OTL amp while I had the Quad's. Then I stupidly sold both when I needed some fast cash. Now I again have Futterman OTL's - a mono pair of H3aa's and a Harvard Music H3 stereo. Plus now two pairs of Quad's!
Are your current amps and other gear the best you've ever had?
I had a pair of Quad 57's in use for 19 years (1981-2000). Then sold them - needed cash. Now have two pairs bought over the past 3 - 4 years! Still my favorite speakers!
older speaker designs
I agree! It was an excellent speaker then - and remains an excellent speaker today! Plus buying on the used market allows you substantial savings!
Cables For Simaudio gear
In 40+ years of buying, selling and listening to audio gear I have never heard a "bad" sounding IC. That includes the cheap $3 Ch*nese red/black IC's.
Cables For Simaudio gear
When I wanted some new IC's I bought 5 pairs of AQ Silver Extremes for $90 each from HCM. List price was $400 each! They are superbly made and sounding! Why spend more? Don't fall for reviews touting wire! As for PC's I only bought one - a $90 Pan...
Better Records White Hot Stampers: Now the Story Can Be Told!
I went to the site. Led Zeppelin I $399 Hot Stamper. $599 Almost White Hot Stamper. Anybody else think this is excessive?
EL 34 tubes
JJ EL34's are a good recommendation. And they are not made in Russia!
Adcom 555se on a smart strip?
Just put it in the cabinet. That amp doesn't get hot enough to worry about, unlike my Bedini amp!
New cartridge $500 range
Hana EL is an easy recommendation here! It is a low-output MC cartridge. It will sound better than a high-output MC like your Blue Point (I had one). Smoother with more detail across the frequency range. Don't worry about having to set the volume ...
