What of your gross annual income is your system?
About 15% for my main system. Four other systems in other rooms total maybe half as much.
Help amp hum is driving me crazy
Perhaps the ground lead on your amp's power socket is not properly connected internally. It certainly doesn't sound like its doing its job as a ground. Try grounding the chassis separately, i.e., maybe run a wire from a chassis screw to the ground...
What's best CD player one piece price no object
I have a Mark Levinson 390s, and I really like it for the colorful dynamics and its ability to give me a sense of the beginning, middle, and end of a sound like a piano note or a drum hit. It's worth an audition.
Anybody using Wilsons or Soundlabs with Pass Labs?
In my primary system, I am driving a pair of WATT/Puppy 6.0s with a pair of Pass X600 monoblocks. The sound is smooth and seamless. All frequency ranges are well presented, with extended highs, even midrange, and OK bass. The best is the midrange. ...
VPI Synchronous Motor Hum problem
Try moving the unit away from your preamp and keep it far from your interconnects, especially the connection from the turntable to the phono preamp stage.
Seems like a handy device
The low standby and bulb readings suggest it might be good to check the meter's calibration. Do its instructions give any way to do this?
Your ONE all time favorite love song?
"The Look of Love" by Dusty Springfield reminds me of when I was young and my first real love. Music is made more important for each of us by its circumstances.
Why Aren't All Cables Pre-Burned In?
My understanding is that the burn in does indeed go bad if the cables sit on the shelf for a while (several weeks). It's not in fact clear that the second burn in would be quicker than the first.
proac 2.5 vs 1sc/sub
I had a 1sc/rel sub combo once, and I thought the sound was good. The 1sc has no pretensions of being a full ranger. Its small woofer is an ideal match to its excellent tweeter, and the overlapping frequencies were blended seamlessly. Properly set...
noice in thiel cs 2.3
Sounds like the power switch on the amp isn't buffered. Since it's a class A design, I suggest you consider leaving it on all the time. It might sound better that way, too. Good luck.
CD Changer w/ Variable Analog Out ?
I'm happy with a Mark Levinson 390s. It's a high quality player (sounds great!) with analog volume control, but it is a single disc machine, not a carousel. Good luck.
Am I being fair?
You get to define what is "local." (City, county, state, region, etc.) In this case, local was your front door.
Class A solid state power amp
The solid state Pass Aleph series has a reputation for tubelike sound. My Aleph 3 has a smooth, liquid, indulgent midrange plus feathery highs and decent lows. While the Aleph series is now out of production, there are a fair number for sale in th...
How to service Cal Audio products?
Cal Audio has gone through some changes. It was acquired by Sensory Science, then Sensory Science was acquired by S3 Corp, which has changed its name to SonicBlue. In the process, it looks like the Cal Audio brand was shut down. Factory service, w...
How does the Phase Linear 400 compare?
Sean: The quote was taken from the original hard copy magazine The Stereophile, Winter (4), 1973/74, pages 9 and 10. The quote represents the entire review, except for the title, power rating, price, and manufacturer's address. The price was $499....
