Upgrade from Revel 228be?
I upgraded from the 228be (I also use two subs) to a pair of JBL 4367s. I should note I liked Revel over a lot of other good brands and after many demos stuck with the Revel/sub combo before moving to the JBLs   I have a number of posts about th...
Best Sounding L/R Speakers for DVD/BD Movie Sound? > $4K/pair
I think beryllium gets a bad rap because the tweeters are often elevated to highlight them. But really the material self damps and has far less ringing than other materials. Revel’s tweeter/tuning is super smooth and a hair rolled off if anything....
Best Sounding L/R Speakers for DVD/BD Movie Sound? > $4K/pair
Speakers from Harman are real easy to listen to due to them having a drop of about 5db from bass to treble. They are detailed still but just an easy listen. I had a pair of 228be and while not by favorite speaker I owned they were outstanding for ...
Toe in is crucial
When I get new speakers I always try no toe in and on axis back to back to see the extremes. I almost always end up somewhere in the middle.
Subwoofer Advice 2
It is readable in the iPhone browser. It looks pretty good. Looks like you could turn up the bass under 60hz a few dB if you have the option. But all in all should sound pretty good.
Borresen X1 & X2
I would like to read more about your Sopra 2 vs X2 comparison when you have time.
Borresen X3 vs Harbeth 40.2 -- my impressions
Helomech,   good feed back. I am not a die hard measurements guy either but most of the speakers I really like also measure pretty well. I think it is an important starting point and then quality of the drivers/build matters too. I will be inter...
Is there Tannoy Magic / Should I buy a pair of Tannoys as "accessory" speaker?
I have a little experience with the smaller Tannoys and also own the 4367. I feel tannoy would be a backwards move for me. I think point sources are a bit over rated (having owned a few) if you sit in a tweaked out sweet spot. The advantage is the...
Best speaker brands for transient response
I have not heard the 4349 so I can’t really comment. It is the “cheapest” JBL to get the duel diaphragm compression driver which is a good thing but it is also pretty small at 1.5”. The bass driver has the same motor structure as their top of the ...
Borresen X3 vs Harbeth 40.2 -- my impressions
Good tread despite the negativity. I have not seen a lot of A/B comparisons (not that this really is one). I personally am waiting for detailed measurements or a demo. I have only seen the M1’s measurements and they a comically bad at any price wi...
Best speaker brands for transient response
Yamaha like many big brands with lots of money make both state of the art stuff and total junk. While I have not heard NS 5000, it leans toward state of the art and have a lot thought put into the materials. The tuning (they published measurements...
Add a subwoofer?
I would add an active crossover to what ever sub you choose. It is as important as the sub (more so IMO).    this apologue model from Sublime acoustics is only $600. I use the K235 that adds balanced inputs/outputs for $1,100 but the units are 95...
Add a subwoofer?
Larger subs just have more output but not needed for normal listening volume. Unlike most on this forum I am not a rel fan. Too much cost for not enough low output imo. For myself I like very large subs.    HSU gets good reviews (and measurements...
Rythmik Audio F12/F12-400 vs JL Audio E-Sub e112
Rythmik has a good reputation and is probably the best bang for the buck. Based on the measurement I would argue they are better than a lot of the completion regardless of price.
Wilson Audio Sasha I or 2 ?
I think the Sasha will be fine if your room and the wilson I would chose for that size. It will have much better and stronger bass extention than the 228be (which I have owned).
