Wish I had put more emphasis on cables earlier
With regards to power cords? How relevant can it be if the a.c. wire from my home fuse box to the outlet is not thick?  Would the amp be most affected by the power cord upgrade? Other than that and my dac, can't change the power cord.
Planar speaker characteristics
I don't think my 1.6qr is tonally accurate and little on the bright side unless you put in the resistors. It also requires a sub.
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
I don't find ss to be less pleasing to the ears. Infact, I prefer the more natural sound of it. Maybe I just like it's coloration more and tube coloration is just too much. Eitherway, I guess the point of the hobby is to find something you like, n...
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
This may be more of a philosophical question but isn't there only one true fidelity and is the technology there, either ss or tube or a combo that's capable of achieving that or is that a myth?  Then there's also a good likelihood that accurate re...
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
I don't think measurements and graphs reflect how a speaker truly sounds and if accurate high fidelity is the goal, would that mean that solid state is the only way to go?
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
I have a McCormack dna1 and a bob Latino tube amp but was actually making a general blanket assessment.
Amazon Launches Lossless "Hi-rez" HD Music Service
I've been using my laptop pc via usb to my dac and compared with Qobuz, Amazon HD does not sound harsh but the sound lacks substance.  Seems too thin and polite.  No punch.  Voices and instruments do not have that palpable presence.  Qobuz is bett...
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
Is this laser-reading problem something that has been studied and corroborated? Is this a problem if the data is read from a hard drive or flash drive? im no electronic engineer but can't they make the laser processor more specific and less sensit...
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
I'm no expert but I like vinyl sound more than digital even with it's vices because real sound is not harsh. Analog has it's own coloration but at least there's no harshness to the reproduction. This is the only reason I don't favor digital. If it...
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
Here's a thought. Anyone in socal willing to do an A-B comparison with his or her system to the available folks here on this thread? I'm sure hearing is very subjective so if we can all hear the same comparison, we may be able to come up with an a...
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
Glad to hear that some have found the magic combo. That's encouraging.
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
@lowrider57, I use a pioneer pd-65 as transport sending data via coaxial to the nuwave and it does sound pretty good. The nuwave was much improved than my old dacmagic but maybe the R2R is the solution.@draumatictenor, I think it's edginess of dig...
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
Thanks for replies. I wanted the perspective of an analog lover which is why I posted here. It sounds like I have plenty of room for improvements but maybe it's unrealistic to get digital to sound just like analog. Each has it's own merits and I w...
A moderate priced dac
I picked up a used PS audio Nuwave dsd and it outperforms my old dacmagic with very little digital harshness. Still not quite analog like but very listenable.
Tidal WiFi not as good as cd
@liquidsound, interesting. How does the Innuos beat the pc sound?  My tidal via laptop sounds less detailed and less transparent with a boosted low end and harsher high end. Almost sounds like tidal had loudness turned on. Qobuz 16/44 seems a tad ...
