How often do you listen to live music?
Minneapolis is a great city for the arts. I try to get to a classical event monthly and with the blues/jazz venues second only to Chicago I find alot of choices. We try to watch for Princes late night events at his studio just ten minutes away. He...
more major players jumping on the sacd bandwagon
Kelly, your point is too logical. The fact is that SACD machines I've heard playing standard "redbook" cd's sound better than there standard counterpart at the same cost. Add to that that you can play CD-R, DVD video and it seems to me you have a ...
more major players jumping on the sacd bandwagon
I don't even understand the argument an more. SACD is in the mass market stores now. The machines are priced only a bit above a good quality cd player and yet allow for CD's, DVD video, CD-R and SACD, both is two channel or up to six channel. The ...
Purist Audio Dominus, Worth it?
I have been doing a test of well over twenty cables over the past six months, and although I'm not ready to write a review I can tell you in my system the Dominus, NBS Statement and FIM Gold were interchangable. None added any toning to the perfor...
SACD : why ?
I agree sattothestars. This does not wash. I'm not sure of the adjenda you have Badwisdom, but I'm sure it is not to be fully honest. You say you compared the DD-100/DC-101 to a number of other players and heard only a tinny difference. I can only...
Review: Sony SCD-1 Audiocom-UK upgrade
PLEASE REMEMBER THESE ARE ONLY MY OPINIONS AND HAVE LITTLE BASIS OF FACT. I've been asked why would I chose to upgrade a first generation SACD player (made by Sony) with all the new "better" products on the horizon. The answer seems simple to me, ...
"Vintage" speakers...good idea?
The advances in speaker quality in the past 30 years are so great that the "Vintage" would need to offer something today's don't. In cone speakers I can't think of any that would fit that. Cabinets, tweeters, cone suspension, components in the cro...
Proton NT-2760 TV
I've had a 32" proton for 15 years. It's the best tube I've ever seen. (I still see no great atvantage to HDTV over the Proton) There are only a few tube manufacturers (I heard three) in the world who supply all the TV tubes. The Proton is made by...
Cheapest SACDs?
Make sure the HMV price quote was in US dollars. For a while they had huge discounts with the dollar conversion. I know they change that about six months ago but it may be worth checking again.

Preamp expriences? Good value amp
The Kora Eclipes is a huge value! When I bought mine 1998, it retailed for close to $7000. They had some issues I guess and you can find that same unit new for under $2000 (retail $4000+). Please try it, it may now be the best buy in audio. At $70...
Help Levinson 27.5, 331 or Plinius SA100?
You really can't go wrong with either the 334 or Plinius. I've owned the Plinius SA100 and the Levinson 331. I think the Plinius in class A is more open and extended. The 331 has great mid-range. I personally lean twards the sound of the Plinius j...
are we are own worst enemies?
Thank-you Cornfed for stating my responce in the right way. The numbers I was trying to state are the same as Kelly's, I think my lingo is wrong. I agree with the statement that if you can't get 20-25% off than look elsewhere, once you learn to bu...
Upgrading electrical-things to do?
With the remote panel idea, I've heard people say that the old fuses vs circuits are the best sounding. If you do go to that extreme it might be worth trying.
