Where to invest the most in the "digital chain"?
@vonhelmholtz - I'm really pleased with the Zen Stream and the Zen DAC too. There are a lot of top-quality components in there and upgraded iPowerX and AC iPurifier's really make them shine. I actually like the challenge of getting the best out o...

@larryro2 - best comment of the day! you are absolutely right that a good chair is one of the most important listening tools! @audiotroy i'd love to drop £4k+ on anything, in fact I'd love to have £20k+ to play with full stop. But, I'm on the bud...

Great observations. I too have disabled WiFi on my network transport and have some nice quality Ethernet cables. I see Supra mentioned a lot so may well take a look in due course.

I don't disagree with anything you have said. Some people have £4k network transports and £4k DACs and they need very little love in the digital chain though good clean power and a decent Ethernet cable do help.  My entire rig is less than £2k wi...
Where to invest the most in the "digital chain"?
Loving this, thanks so much for the insights. I'm particularly interested in the thinking that having the highest quality streamer at the front end negates the need for as much tinkering in the Ethernet chain (though I also wonder if that can only...
Where to invest the most in the "digital chain"?
A consensus seems to be forming around investment in the DAC itself and good power and clean signal to the DAC. This is interesting
Where to invest the most in the "digital chain"?
Magic question! My current DAC is under £200 and being realistic I can't justify spending over £1k anytime soon.
Where to invest the most in the "digital chain"?
Good point, I was trying to keep the scope of the discussion to the digital aspect of the system. The DAC connects to a Zen Can as a pre-amp/headphone amp with an ifi pentaconn connector. From the Can connects to a Topping PA5 with a pentaconn to ...

Great stuff so far guys. DAC first, digital path second. I am definitely in the camp of keeping components separate and dedicated to the task at hand which is why I am using the Zen Stream as a dedicated Network Transport. I don't want anything ...

@atlvalet - you are correct in that the data itself is packets of 1’s and 0’s. None of the tweaks we talk about alter the data itself in any way and Ethernet and TCP are reliable at getting the packets to their destination. I am a lifelong IT guy...

@vthokie83 - my mind is blown! Just how many USB re-clocker, de-jitter, and noise reduction widgets are there? This wouldn't work with my current setup but it's great to know that there is something for everyone out there. I've achieved somethin...

Occam followed his own principle and switched to disposables some time ago. However, it is all about what is necessary. If the listener hears an improvement and is happy with the cost-to-improvement ratio it is not an unnecessary multiplication. ...

I'm considering ordering an ENO AG Streaming Kit when payday arrives this week as an evaluation! I'm also strongly considering evaluating the EtherRegen v2 when it is realised in the coming months. I absolutely love playing with kit! Good shout ...

Thanks, @discopants, that is all insightful. I've found a 2960G (1Gpbs version) for a ridiculously small sum, great condition, Cisco IOS 15 and factory reset so I will deploy between Router and EE 8Switch. I'm not sure you need CAT8 specifically...

@sgreg1 - the Intona USB Isolator looks very interesting indeed. The Zen Stream and Zen DAC have built-in USB magic to reduce/remove unwanted noise however I've already considered adding an ifi USB iPurifier3 (though it is a USB 2 device it would ...
