Amp for stereo subs
Swampwalker, the Crowns could well be a nice solution here, but you will have to take into account some things - including whether your dual 12-inchers on each side will be seen by the amp(s) as a 8- or 4-ohm load and what their sensitivity is and...
Tube integrated with real bass. Does it exist?
Give Mapleshade a look. There are some HH Scott integrated (EL 84 tube) amps they modify that may fit the bill. Read their description and user comment sections.
Best budget speakers for near-field/small space
Look at the Adam A7X near-field powered monitors ($1500/pr) or, as Bassdude suggests above, the Wavetouch GT's (which I own)...just because a speaker is small does not necessarily guarantee that they will do well in the near field, but I can tell ...
Bright & fast speaker cables with great imaging ?
For amps, look at Van Alstine for SS or consider Decware SET's.
Bright & fast speaker cables with great imaging ?
Mapleshade Golden Double Helix speaker wires may be your best bet. Their Excalibur or Clearview IC's will further the cause in the qualities you mentioned.
Suggest budget CDP to use as transport
Oppo 103 has the qualities you mentioned as well as being reliable in the long run ($500). Nice thing is that if you ever find yourself looking for an improvement with it down the road you can call Ric Schultz over at EVS and investigate his trans...
What's with the short speaker stands?
Branislav, My advice is that you can buy your favored monitors and experiment for as long as needed after break-in with any makeshift or temporary means of support and placement for the speakers until you arrive at an ideal height vs (whatever) fo...
What's with the short speaker stands?
Mapman, "It all depends. Sometimes it turns out worthwhile to go outside the box, especially in more challenging or atypical rooms accordingly". Agreed, as your own experiences no doubt show and it does indeed depend on an array of factors, but I'...
What's with the short speaker stands?
I think I'm with you Branislav. Just seems less than ideal when image height is below your ears, like you're above the stage...I'm more inclined to be looking slightly up at the performers, rather than down. With most floorstanders it may be econo...

oppo 105d mod or look for a new cd player ?
A modded Oppo should allow you to add a PC, if and when that should become your source. I'm using an EVS modified 103 and it's great, light years ahead of the stock sound. The Oppo's are built to last. But, give Ric a call; he's great to talk to i...
What's the solid state amp to buy $2500?
Ric Schultz at EVS is getting ready to release a new amp of his own design. A 25w pure class A, ss (50w @ 4 ohm). Don't know exactly when it's due out, but it should be killer. $2500 Details on his site.
Help with equipment rack design
Wood I feel is the right material, especially if solid and not too much MDF is employed. Don't recommend glass, stone, ceramic, steel, aluminum, etc if you ask me...they may tend to have too reflective of an RFI/EMI profile in your room and/or vib...
Do Countries Have a "House" Sound
Did happen to stumble onto this Aussie article:http://www.gadgetguy.com.au.buyers-guide/which-speaker-brands-are-the-best-world-tour/link doesn't seem to be working here - this should read: ".com.au.buyers-guide/which-speaker-brands-are-the-best-w...
Do Countries Have a "House" Sound
Yes, I did neglect to mention that. It may be odd, but few audiophiles I think would question the audible differences between countries/cultures when it comes to tubes.
