Dynavector DV 505 anti-skating question
I have a Dynavector 501, and I don't seem to have any issue with anti-skate. I see your 505 has the same anti-skate set up as my 501. I would say to use just enough adjustment to do the job. Many folks swear that no anti-skate is best. Just do wha...
Phono cartridge advice
Hello Les,I too, have a Garrard 401. I'm using a Dynavector 501 arm. My favorite cartridge is a Denon 103R, that has had the ESCCO white sapphire cantilever/Paratrace stylus modification. The 103R, in stock form, is fairly inexpensive (I believe a...
Need Suggestions for speakers up to $15K new/used
I'm wondering how your room will interact with any of the speakers you have in mind. With your apparent availability of resources, I would have Rives Audio do a workup on your room, and follow their suggestions. That will ensure any speaker you dec...
The most transparent speaker cable
Look into Tempo Electric Big Twist solid-core silver cables. I have two sets, one for each amp, which even now would probably cost much less than one pair of, say, the Transparent cable mentioned.I've used Synergistic Research, Auditorium A23, and...
Problem with Primare I32 Amp
I don't know what part of the country you're in, but I had to have a Primare SP 31 processor-preamp rebuilt. I sent it to Randy Vikan at Audio Elite in Western Washington state. He's also a factory authorized tech for McIntosh. He does a good job,...
Power for Klipschorns
Sounds like you need an integrated amp with built-in phono stage. I'd look here on the 'Gon for what's available. With the speakers you are using, you have more options than if you were trying to drive power hungry speakers, so tube amplification ...
Adding Center Channel
Hi Ric,On many HT receivers, there is in the setup menu a method to sync the audio via delay settings. Have you exhausted all means in the settings? This should be an easy fix, although some menu setups can be quite confusing, even for techs.Good l...
Recommnedations for moderately price balanced IC's, and adaptors to an RCA end
Try Signal Cables, theirs are very good, and reasonable as well.Dan
Help wanted: Bass!
RB, my listening room is similar to yours, though a bit larger, at 16' X 34' w/cathedral ceilings. Speakers are custom built 12" Tannoy HPD's (ca 1975 Dual Concentric, which have been converted to Hard Edge surrounds, and custom outboard crossover...
What glue for dust cap repair?
You might try checking with Madisound, they specialize in DIY speaker building. They may sell glue that is formulated for affixing the woofer cone to the basket, I would think that would be best for your application.Good luck, Dan
Best type of Sub to consider?
Kenny my experience with subs is rather limited as well. I am satisfied with my passive 15" Tannoy and Crown amp, and an old Velodyne that I removed the passive radiator, used a new Eminence 12" driver and 500 Watt plate amp. This does what I need ...
Best type of Sub to consider?
Kenny, you most likely will get as many differing opinions as Carter has pills (as in most audio related subjects). If you can find a dealer for JL Audio, and have a look/listen to them, and try to get a home trial. That would be my first thought, ...
Recommendations for retipping service for my Benz-Micro?
I can recommend Soundsmith in the USA, and Expert Stylus and Cartridge Company in the UK. I've had a Dynavector XX2MKII re-tipped by Soundsmith, which to my ears, made it sound even better than it did when new.ESCCO did a white sapphire cantilever...
Pure silver loom
I don't have an all silver loom, but where I have used it, the result has always been a good one. I'm using Tempo Electric 12 gauge solid core silver for speaker wires, I don't see how they could be bested, honestly, but that's a matter of opinion...
Need feedback on loudspeakers
I would definitely listen to some Tannoys. I have a vintage pair of 12" HPD Dual Concentric I use every day, and they have the deepest soundstage of most any speaker I've heard, also they sometimes project a wrap-around effect that is very enjoyab...
