Amp's nominal power rating - any use?
Dongiovanni, I confess to being biased against SET amps. I think most people that like them are just hearing a modified frequency response caused by the electrical anomalies of the output stage, like a high output impedance. Frankly, considering t...
Amp's nominal power rating - any use?
Magfan, the phase angle discussion you're trying to have is frequency-dependent, which you've ignored, so "next to nothing" still seems a stretch to me, which was my point. Since most listening, even on the OP's speakers, will be done with the fir...
Amp's nominal power rating - any use?
Kijanki, it is difficult to disagree that music has varying loudness, but 45.9%? I don't think your calculation is nearly accurate enough to claim a number with such precision. For one thing, the dynamic range of music varies so much by music type...
Amp's nominal power rating - any use?
I have no idea what Kijanki is talking about, with his percentages.Your speakers are good for about 87db for 1 watt into 8 ohms (at one meter). This means an amp that clips at 8 watts will drive the speaker to 96db at one meter, which most people ...
Wilson Sasha or the new B&W 800 Diamond
I'd highly recommend hearing the KEFs and the Revels, though they are both difficult to find in most areas. I heard the KEFs first, and almost bought them on the spot. The KEFs are very impressive, but it was the Revels that ultimately won me over...
Wilson Sasha or the new B&W 800 Diamond
I've heard the "new" 802D, and unless the new 800D is substantially better (it was not the case in the previous generation) the 802 is a good indicator of the 800. The new generation is better to my ears (if aural memory is worth anything, especia...
Revel ultima 2 salon owners biwire or not
I agree, using banana plugs with the door closed seems impossible with these speakers. That was very annoying, because my preferred connector is a locking banana. It sounds like your problem with the upper binding posts is that you are using a thi...
Mark Levinson 37 transport or new cdp today..?
Rwwear, apology accepted.
Revel ultima 2 salon owners biwire or not
Congratulations on the Salon 2s. I'm very happy with my pair. Unless you bi-amp, bi-wiring is a waste. Revel even says so in the owners manual. 10 gauge zip cord works great.
Mark Levinson 37 transport or new cdp today..?
Rwwear, I don't have to "read the forums". I have several Levinson components and I just had a discussion with the factory recently about support for the amps, which are out of warranty. (Nothing is broken, we were discussing cap renewal.) Enough ...
Mark Levinson 37 transport or new cdp today..?
Rwwear, since your statement that Levinson does not support their older products directly contradicts my personal experience, how did you come to the conclusion that they don't? Have you ever owned a Levinson product?
What speakers use SEAS or SEAS-sourced drivers?
Linkwitz Labs Orion. Auditioning can be challenge, but if you contact Linkwitz he can usually arrange something. These are some of the best speakers I've heard, regardless of price, but the Seas tweeters are one of the weaker points in the design,...
Mark Levinson 37 transport or new cdp today..?
I don't agree with Rwwear. In the ML37/39/390 CD players the weak link is the drawer mechanism, not the laser. The drawer mechanism gets mistimed easily, and you have to follow ML's procedure to reset it. The open/close drive belt also breaks, str...
Cable Costs Relative to System
Psychicanimal says:My system is resolving enough that anyone can tell apart same models of a power cable treated at different cryogenic facilities. My system is gentle enough that it can successfully play any recording of any musical genre regardl...
Are there any constants in speaker wire designs?
PaperW8, I mentioned the inductance / capacitance issue with speakers because, as you probably know, some manufacturers are purposely designing cables to have abnormally high values of one characteristic or the other. Some high capacitance cables ...
