Revel Salon vs Vandersteen 5A
I think, Raquel, you've been reading too much VAC marketing hype. To read the web sites from VAC, Atmasphere, etc you would think solid state amps have no bass definition, high distortion, that you can't hear acoustic decay or detail, and that it ...
Revel Salon vs Vandersteen 5A
Raquel, the negative feedback argument is so yesterday. If that were true, digital sources would always sound lifeless, because every IC op-amp circuit has negative feedback. And digital recordings don't always sound lifeless. If there really are t...
Revel Salon vs Vandersteen 5A
"So... Here's a question. How many of you guys have really enjoyed a speaker that sounded amazing to you but on paper had poor measurements? Freq response, etc."During a demo, I unfortunately have to answer - a lot. Exaggerated bass, especially, ca...
Revel Salon vs Vandersteen 5A
So, Mcreyn, the Revels (Salon2s, I assume?) are accurate, but have "no soul"? Does that mean a speaker has to be inaccurate to have soul?
Revel Salon vs Vandersteen 5A
Which Salons? 1 or 2? Personally, I think time and phase coherence are just marketing hype. Some of the best speakers in the world are time and phase incoherent. My advice is just listen and choose that way.
HELP B&W 802D or Revel Ultima Salon2
I've listened to both, and it is very important to listen to the latest version of the 802D. IMO, B&W really improved them, but for some reason didn't update the designations at all. That said, I prefer the Salon2 and purchased them. Not only d...
Levinson 360 vs Benchmark
I went to the Partsconnexion web site. Replacing the output ICs in the Benchmark may have an audible effect (though I'm not sure why, since the Benchmark measures so well, analog-wise), but they lost me on this statement:"The caps and resistors ch...
Levinson 360 vs Benchmark
Very interesting... I've sworn never again to repair my No39 when it breaks, and replace it with a Benchmark. And you guys say it's not in the same league... hmmm. I just might have to try one on their 30-day trial offer and see for myself.
How close to the real thing?
Well, Edseas2, I'm so glad that your view settles everything, after all! And of course, you have the BAS to back you up. And to think we've created a thread five pages long discussing a conclusion we could have just asked you for. :)Merry Christma...
How close to the real thing?
Actually, Ed, I don't think anyone said an occasional note sounded live, but only an occasional recording. Most of my recordings contain more than one note. ;)FWIW, I don't think the Camilo sounds live on my system. Very nice, but not live. Too sy...
How close to the real thing?
Sitting here listening, as I type this, to Michel Camilo's Solo album (Telarc Jazz) at something like a realistic volume level... if this is 5% of live, I'll take it as-is and be happy for a long while.
How close to the real thing?
"Irvrobinson, while our amplifiers tend to have higher output impedances, that impedance curve is nearly identical to the frequency response curve of the amplifier, IOW linear from 2Hz-100KHz." And how does that 4ohm+ output impedance affect inter...
Active Vs. Passive
Interesting, Budt, your view on the Orion+. Could you elaborate more on your experiences with them?
Revel Salon 2 vrs Kef 207/2
I'm wondering, Egrady, if he formed that conclusion after my original post regarding my week of inching around the Revels to get the right placement. The Revels were, truth be known, more difficult to place that my previous Legacy Focus, but I sus...
Revel Salon 2 vrs Kef 207/2
How do you know the Revels will have more placement issues than the KEFs? Uni-q would have little to do with it, incidentally.
