Looking for a tube Preamp new or used for under $2000...
I would go with a hand built tube preamp like the aric audio, don sachs or space tech labs, way more bang for the buck than most brand name preamps.
Acoustic treatment question: do you agree with Dennis Foley that $46k to $65k is required?
There are no guarantees when you hire these guys, I believe some of it proven science and some is guess work.
Dedicated power
for the Parasound hca 3500 I wouldn’t be surprised if dealers aren’t telling customers the unit should be fed from a 120V 30 amp circuit. Over the phone Parasound Tech support maybe saying the unit needs to be fed from a 120V 30 amp circuit. I dou...
Does it annoy you when companies don't show the internals of electronics ?
Really good point to point Will have The components arranged in an almost star pattern, all of them leading radially away from the tube socket.

That picture you posted a link too has way too much wire in it, people who know how to point to point wire don't use hardly any wire.

A neat layout and wiring doesn't always add up to good sound or even reliability, sometimes it even causes hum and noise problems. Point to point wired tube gear everything  should be at the tube sockets.
Grounding with a Earth box?
As far as I know, the ground provides protection from high voltages and provides protection to the equipment.  If you have a direct lightning strike your out of luck regardless. Equipment ground will work without a grounding rod, like oldhvymec w...
Which Component Has the Greatest Affect on Low-Level Listening
a very well executed line preamp with attention paid to stable linear gain attenuation will have the most dramatic impact of fullness at ALL playback levels.  This is the best advice, it makes sense. I have 80 db sensitivity speakers and they soun...
Grounding with a Earth box?
The grounding rod to you electric service is for lightening strikes, it has nothing to do with grounding your components.
will changing to solid-state make the bass in my wilson sophias better at low volume?
Maybe try one of space tech labs virtual subwoofers. It's not a subwoofer but a lot of user reviews say it sounded way better than some top quality subs like rel with better integration. Their is a thomas and stereo youtube video of a pair of 60,0...
Finally found THE SPEAKER!!!
Thank you for your response. I have never heard the Duetta Sigs. I bet they sound AWESOME!!! I am now a fan of the technology. How do they hold up over time. This is still a concern of mine. I am so used the traditional speaker designs and how they...
Finally found THE SPEAKER!!!
power my Duetta Sigs with a BAT VK250. Can get the Duettas to play very loud without distortion or fatigue. You haven't heard what an apogee can do until you actively bi-amp them with well over a 1000 watts per channel using quality amps.

Even if you set up a company for the transactions from your hobby it seems to me you would have to depreciate items over a certain dollar amount. I have to do this with certain items I use in my businesse. I have no idea how this would work if you...

It's funny you guys think that a point to point wired rats nest is not reliable, some of the early tube equipment looks like a rats nest and was reliable for over 50 years. Most of the neat point to point wired products aren't truly point to point...
FUSES, Finally!?
love the directional fuse guys the best, because it is akin to wearing putting a swastika tattoo: It lets people know where you stand. As I have noted before, electricity from our wall outlets, interconnects, speaker cables, as well as sound WAV...
