The Color Of Vinyl
Mike, that is a good summary of the varying parameters for making vinyl discs. I used to run a vinyl compounding plant that produced (or at least tried) vinyl for records, among other products such as cable jackets. The common "brightener" is tita...
Ok this will be a good thread.
TWL, if I can hear differences among all speakers, but can't tell differences among CDP's, is it because the speakers are more important for a good system or is it because the speakers aren't good enough to resolve the differences among the CDPs? ...
Ok this will be a good thread.
TWL, what would have been really interesting about your little demonstration, is to have run the lp12 through the A40'S. I think that the listeners would still have preferred the A40 set-up. Your demonstration actually only proved that people pref...
Center image on left side and don't know why
Dave, could you be describing the phenomenon that explains why some people hear differences in Power Cords? Did you resolve or admit to your problem by taking measurements, by chance?
Center image on left side and don't know why
Do others listening to your set-up experience the same phenomenon? If no, then it sounds (pun intended) like a hearing problem (right ear).
Digitally remastered vinyl?
Viridian, it is inherent in the playback of vinyl through the recovery of the signal from the grove, because of the 90 degree difference where the L and R signals are picked up. In a recording, some of the left signal is captured in the right chan...
Digitally remastered vinyl?
Jackcob, the LP playback system does introduce phase differences between L and R channels and this is what makes most people think that vinyl is more "real" than CDs. If the original digital recording, however, contains these clues (and a good dig...
From tubes to solid state. What do you loose...
Judit, How can adding harmonics (even or odd) add detail if the detail isn't already there? In fact, if the detail is already in the signal won't adding harmonics confuse the sound more?
May use a step down transformer for HI-End ?
You don't have to worry about the 60hz vs 50hz problem, unless you are powering a motor (turntable using an AC motor). Also might be a problem using a tape deck with AC motors. Most equipment, including those with motors, use the AC current and co...
Newbie Question - What is "Overhang"
SdCampbell, actually overhang exists also for linear trackers. You still need to position the stylus correctly along the arm otherwise you will be off tangent for the whole disc, negating one of the advantages of linear tracking!
Quietest amplifier you have ever owned.
Bobgates, first of all, I didn't say "all you have to do is start tweaking". I said that all tweaking is attempting to repair a perceived or real problem in your system. Noise in a properly set up system is not usually a problem - just because you...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Infinity, how do you measure these 25-30? changes, especially the improvement to accuracy?
What stand does you Turntable sit on?
Sean, I am relieved to hear that. Actually I was quite surprised to see your post, since your other posts seemed to show that you do have a good grasp of many things technology-wise refering to audio.Salut, Bob P.PS. I do really suspend my TT from...
What stand does you Turntable sit on?
My Alex Mk IV sits on a MDF panel which is suspended from the ceiling with 4 vinyl coated wires. Horizontal motion is restricted by small wire loops between the wall and the MDF panel, but the apparatus is in free suspension when playing, since th...
Quietest amplifier you have ever owned.
How to determine if your system/component has sufficiently low noise? Simple. Play something at realistic (or desired volume) levels, then stop play and, at approximately half the distance that you normally listen to your system, listen and note i...
