A system for my college-bound daughter
That's my home computer listening set-up : Grado RS-1 and Burson Audio Conductor Virtuoso dac/headphone amp.Frank, do you have vintage or classic Grado, or recent ?
How to go about collecting Classical Music
Qobuz is better than Tidal, no doubt. I listen to none of them.
Who else is using old cables/interconnects, and is happy?
Dominus Rev B fluid is a great cable. I have Rev B with Ferox power cord on the amp and it isn't going anywhere.

Mike, for orchestral music I can suggest you look for just about anything that performed by Berlin, Vienna and also by London Philharmonic orchestra. Von Karajan, in my opinion, is the very best conductor there is and was.If you want to hear cello...
New cartridge $500 range
Audio Note MM is also expensive, I think it is actually based on Goldring. If I wanted to upgrade the Goldring 1042 I would probably go with either Audionote or perhaps one of those vintage that chakster talks about. I just see no reason to jump to...

whipsaw, no, no experience with those. Generally speaking, as an analogy, think of Purist fluid cables as 'tubes' and of Ferox as 'transistors'.I never tried Contego cables, people say that they are just in-between.

I would just get Grado RS-1 headphones and Audioquest Black dac/headphone amp. That would be good enough sound with computer source. If she needs speakers too, Audioengine powered speakers should be enough, if not - Dynaudio powered speakers.

One reason that I still keep the Colossus cables is that Purist abandoned the combination of silver alloy conductors and fluid, which I thought was a mistake. If I find old Dominus for a reasonable price, unlikely, I will get them. I do use the ne...
Single driver speakers. Are they worth considering ?
I can't remember the name of speaker brand that uses 10" PHY driver and optional super tweeter. Or maybe there are a few brands.
Single driver speakers. Are they worth considering ?
I thought PHY had 10" drivers as well, there are other brands of 8" and 10" drivers used in single driver speakers. They go much lower than 60HZ.

Goldring 1042 is an excellent cartridge. I use it with Nottingham Spacedeck/Spacearm and Acoustech PH-1 phono stage. Whatever I upgrade in the system I can clearly hear the change. Even minor things like putting one half inch Walker isolation disc...

I have kept original Purist Colossus fluid speaker cables for 20 years, along with the same speakers. Feel no need to replace them until I upgrade the speakers. I have changed all the rest cables and cords with excellent results.
The best TT system for under 30K
Yeah, Nagaoka M-500, Audio Note Io and a few Soundsmith cartridges might be just fine to begin with before jumping to Koetsu or other expensive MCs..
Anything SS sounds better than D'Agostino ?
jbrrp1, did you forget about the Luxman after switching to D'Agostino?
