Speaker cabinets: How important is inert
And then there are free resonance, that's controlled resonance speakers by Michael Green. Anyone listened to his Chameleons? I don't have Chameleons but I have his old Revolution 80i model. Very natural sound. Michael has a great ear. But I would ...
Which attributes do you value most?
PRaT and dynamics are more important to me than the rest. Coherence would be next. I can listen to a good boombox if it does them reasonably well but I will not listen to speakers that do everything well except this.Having said that, I of course v...
How to shop for speakers?
6550C, your approach is interesting but not, I think, without flaws. You really liked three very different pairs of speakers - SoundLab, Meridian and Mirage. They all must've had something in common in the way they presented music. Do you know wha...
How to shop for speakers?
I would just like to point your attention to the fact that you might be unable to get the speakers you want. At least new. Do you consider buying used or waiting for a demo pair to show up?I personally would avoid spending a lot of money and still...
Is rack between speakers always less than ideal?
Yeah, generally, the lower the better though, I think, the equipment might vibrate more because of low frequencies. So I wouldn't put a turntable on an amp stand.
A voltage driven conundrum
Yes, Rowland. As a bonus, it's light and easy to move around.
Nakamichi Dragon Performance with Type II tapes
Yeah, why not experiment with different types and brands? Just don't push the recording level too far; I use 5 for type II and 7 for type IV.When it comes to Vertex and TDK MA-R and MA-XG it is not only the tape itself that counts, it is the anti-...
Turntable suggestions for novice...
I would be careful to buy anything that I see for sale too often. Many buy P3 and many upgrade quickly. So why buy it?
Nakamichi Dragon Performance with Type II tapes
Yeah, sealed Vertex goes for at least $75 and MA-XG for $40. Old MAs are better than newer ones. Maxell MX-S is quite good, usually $12-$15 a piece. Sony Metal Master and That's Suono just don't sound good on my deck, and Vertex and MA-XG are mecha...
Nakamichi Dragon Performance with Type II tapes
I sent mine to Willy Hermann too.Reference metal tape is better in every respect. Some do think that best type I tape can go a little lower in bass. Not in my experience.
Nakamichi Dragon Performance with Type II tapes
If you want to really test your deck you should use reference type IV metal tape: Maxell Vertex or TDK MA-XG. Two best type II tapes that I tried were Nakamichi SX and Maxell XLII-S.On my Nak 682ZX Vertex is clearly superior to everything else.
Is it okay to talk around your speakers?
It is perfectly OK for as long as you don't talk or even think about other speakers. That would not be forgiven.
Downgrading from Rega P5, what next?
I would guess that you want to downgrade to start upgrading later. Interesting idea. Why not?
SET amp recommendations for Zu Definition II's
There are Komuro amps here on sale; should be good enough.
