Single Ended or Balanced -- a Difficult Choice
I remember same thread a number of years ago. In some cases it was not better or worse but different, balanced always sounded louder, though. Balanced can also be less selective of cables.
Best REEL TO REEL blank tape?
Now that's expensive. Maxell back coated 10" new was $100 last time I looked. Vertex cassette has exactly the same tape, I think.
Best REEL TO REEL blank tape?
Wrong on a few points. First, I have Nakamichi 682ZX cassette deck with custom transformer which is tuned as well as it can be. I also use Purist Audio Neptune top level interconnects with it. It cannot fully match my Nottingham turntable even whe...
My experience with Galen Carol Audio
He is very well known and has been there forever. What did he recommend you get, by the way ?
It's European invasion
trelja, could you elaborate on this "big change" ?

czarivey, they will hang you and we will be upset.
Is anyone going to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest?
So am I. I think, the more digital everything goes the less connection to the sound becomes. There are still young people interested but not many, as far as I can tell. Next generation is more computer dependent than they or us realize. From this ...

America is the land of immigrants, including Nazi. But why don't we return to hi-fi?
Is anyone going to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest?
It may be, sure. Almost every time I am reading about people's impressions, it is Gryphon, Ypsilon, Lamm and Nagra electronics with various speakers that get the praise. Oh yes, and Wavac. And sometimes VAC too. They must be all doing something ve...

To return to purely audiophile land. On one hand, it might be right to have a turntable as the strongest link possible. On the other hand, it tempts you to upgrade everything else to match it.As for other brands, the man said those two only, we sh...

I may understand the logic. She wants to protect her husband from himself, and she might want to protect family finances as well.
The longest you have owned any gear?
Sorry. I can see that some people still buy Studers on ebay, for about $4k, but don't buy them for over $5k. I don't get it. When it comes to Studer and considering that $4k is already no pocket change, I would be prepared to pay extra $1k if I sa...
LP's... Do they sound better now than 30 yrs ago?
Buying used turntable is a gamble and turntables don't like shiipping, as if anything did, right.I think, $600 $800 buy something acceptable to begin with, new, not including phono stage and cleaning devices. Dirty vinyl ruines the experience.
