Obscure brands worth considering
So what is his secret?
Obscure brands worth considering
Clayton amps are in a very high esteem in some circles. Unfortunately, I have never heard them.Six dealers is not too bad, Nottingham turntables have just one, I think.
Wilsons are the best speakers in the world
Right. Then both Lamm and Ypsilon should know that they might also lose part of their potential market, people with both money and ears. Frankly, I don't understand their problem, anyway, if they have it. They should be able to sell everything the...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
And we are still infinitely far from fully mastering the fire, whatever this means.
Vibration Issues / Turntable Decisions
I never tried a really good rack. Placing equipment on a maple block with cones under it on the floor does give me a better sound. Any piece of equipment. Well, I can't keep everything on the floor because of practical considerations but my turnta...

John, I think the more people rely on computers the more they will become like computers. And I don't want to see it let alone participate.

Maybe all of us should get Herzan active isolation platform, as was suggested in another thread, and call it a day. It's $10k, so what? Save on coffee, beer and lunches, will be healthier too.

John, I think you stress the emotional component, which in my mind is also the most important. I heard a few fine instruments that didn't give that no matter who played them, and I heard other instruments that sounded a lot like the vintage design...

Perhaps there cannot be any more breakthroughs for a very long time, who knows? When all you really want to do is sell sell sell, you will create nothing except more ways to sell.

I would also check the tracking force, just in case.

I thought that for the horn to go very low it had to be the size of a house. Was I wrong?

I don't dislike Wilsons, and if they were lousy speakers both Lamm and Ypsilon would pay zero attention to them.Wilsons are popular speakers, and most buyers - I suspect- are not audiophiles but music lovers. They work for them just fine.
So how many use MM cartridge and intend to keep it that way ?
$2k Lyra Delos, which used to cost $1k two years ago from the UK, is where it might make sense to start. Or Ortofon Cadenza Bronze, $2.5k. Then there might be Kiseki Purple Heart and Transfiguration. Still, coherence, impact and weight of a good M...

There is a pair of Marten Coltrane for $66.7k obo from the Netherlands, no need for $120k.How do they sound? I have no idea and never heard them. They are Swedish, right? Also, anyone heard big Gryphon speakers? Considering his amps, they should no...
