Power amplifier longevity… thoughts? You can have brand new Red Dragon M1000 monoblocks for $1600. Plenty of power for any Mangepan.
Upgrade from Revel 228be? Yamaha NS-5000 would be my vote. $15K new. Their driver technology is ahead of everybody else. Only problem is they need at least 200 watts for their 3.5 pound woofer coils. 500 watts are better.
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!! Streaming is the nexus between wealth and luck in America. You need the luck of access to hard wired fiber optic service and the wealth to express the data on a fancy system, like the person who began this thread. Coaxial cable was invented in th...
The Rapid Rise (& Fall) of the CD The hilarity is in everybody fighting for their antique technology's supremacy. Silicon Valley was built ignoring the engineer's maxim of waste heat undermining efficiency. I lived there. I heard very rich tech people ridiculing efficiency as thei...
No More Fake Reviews - So Who’s Gonna Tell Us What To Buy? Audio is a luxury product. Obviously manufacturers take care of reviewers. It's part of capitalism. As a consumer you must be ruthless. Government intervention is not the solution. Just take a break if it stops being fun. As an older guy I look a...
Biwiring make any sense? Bi-wiring opens your system up to more potential open circuits. Heavy gauge cable to a single set of posts with finished shrink wrapped heavy gauge jumpers is a better idea. Of course there are active designs with dedicated amplifiers for each dri...
Power Amplifier - Maximum Resolution & Detail! The poster doesn't say what his speakers are or the room dimensions. I have Yamaha NS 5000's in a great room type space with a 13 foot listening distance. Using 500 watt B&O Ice Modules in Red Dragon mono block chassis. Details and cool runni...

Toe in is crucial "Toe" is a term from automotive wheel alignment referring to wheels' geometric relationship to straight ahead on the vertical axis. Zero degrees is straight ahead. Some loony reviewers cannot figure it out. Speakers are for ambiance and pleasure...
Need Opinions for Different Cable Manufacturers/Cable Designs Cables are like woofer coils. It's copper and how much.
DAC options to consider for Innuos streamer Don't bother. Any stand alone DAC you add will be a lateral move. Or worse you will lengthen the signal path allocating money for a cable for no reason. If your preamp were purely analog then yes. But you have one of the best onboard already.
Those magical days when the HVAC is off My system is on all day for my wife's background music. The HVAC runs around the clock in summer (southern Nevada). One benefit of class D that people overlook is the much lower amp draw. I had an electrician look over my 500 watt class D system a...
McIntosh Tube Amp will not come on. Some pretty ghoulish stories of their newer equipment not working with remote, slow repair service.
I want to buy new speakers for 50,000 and see it used for 30,000, what should I do? Unless you have a very large room I think you reach the point of diminishing returns around $25K. |
