Sweetest sounding 12AU7?
Back in the late ’90s, Andy from Vintage Tubes sold me a half dozen NOS Mullard 12AU7s for my preamp (along with some Amperex 6922s for the amp) and I remember feeling that the sound I got from that combination was warm and musical and rocking. "S...
A stupid question(s) about power cords
@dill  , yes, if an improvement, even one so small that I will not IMMEDIATELY hear, can be made for around $150, I'll give it a try.  And if not, que sara, sara. So, you don't have the ear for it and it is a hassle to change the cable, but you ...
My new B Stock speakers
Maybe these are different.  @mofojo  , I am only a bit over 30 hours, so from what I have read here it is too early to pass judgement, so therefore I am not doing so just yet, but I will say that depending upon the source, they are quite lively...
A stupid question(s) about power cords
@audphile1  , I absolutely hate trying to A/B stuff (I don't have the ear for it, plus, the back of my components isn't the worst in the world, but it is not super-duper accessible either) so as opposed to going back and forth from components to p...
My new B Stock speakers
@mrdecibel , I actually did get two more of the Preffair power cords--at this point I have 40 hours on the PC from the SACDp and a bit over 30 hours on the other two (amp and preamp). As far as the speaker change, it has been on my list and I hav...
What are the circular discs people use on components?
are these really necessary? Yes. They are very necessary. Buy as many as you can afford.
My new B Stock speakers
Thanks, @mrdecibel  , the pair I got from MD was marked down to 2900 and change (so much change they were almost 3k) but without stands.  The (I think they are) Target stands I was using with my B&Ws seem to be about the right size for them. ....
My new B Stock speakers
@alaric62  , I do not think that the speaker caps were mentioned on this thread.  The sales rep from MD did mention them when I asked if speakers ever "just wore out."  I think I remember once seeing a cap when I had removed the back panel with th...
Marantz SA10 sacd player
@jayctoy  , I just got through going to that lin@sharri  provided and ordering the assembly from encompass.  Hopefully I will never need it, but it is kind of like insurance, I guess, that if I can find someone to install it, at least I will have ...
Would you move to a bigger house if you could just to have a better listening room ?
the 22"X25", dedicated listening room. It even has it's own private full bath and HVAC register. @awise1961  , you are living large!
Would you move to a bigger house if you could just to have a better listening room ?
In a heartbeat.
audible distortion and tube gear?
@atmasphere  , thank you for getting back to me on that.  As always, I appreciate the education you provide to me.
Quandary
@rvpiano , I can only speak for myself, but I would not pay $300 to audition the monoblocks that were not the ones that I was going to buy. Honestly, I think I would have a hard time seeing my way clear to paying $300 to audition the equipment th...
For city apartment dweller audiophiles. Have you ever had neighbors banging on your walls?
a fellow moved in upstairs whose child stomps around like a maniac and is prone to fits of screaming. So I blast him with my Genelec system that includes a sub. When the child starts in I turn the system on full blast so the windows and walls sha...
Marantz SA10 sacd player
However, the reason for having the player is generally to play sacd discs. Yes, @sharri  , the reason I bought it was to hear the full sonic attributes of SACD and to also play my red book discs.  You are right--if I did not want to play SACD I...
