Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing @deep_333 For my work and quality of life I have to live in Manhattan. My stereo is nice but not enough to translate into a down payment on much more than a closet here.
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing Now I can ask you: how did you come up with your moniker? I hope it is not because you really liked the Bruce Willis movie by that name. @larryi It absolutely is. That movie is a misunderstood classic that's aged like fine wine.
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing Thanks all for the very thoughtful feedback. Based on all of your feedback, here’s my plan: Get a huge thick area rug to go under the stereo and LP. Thick rug pad under (maybe mass-loaded vinyl?). Decouple the speakers with Isoacoustic Gaia’s ...
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing @curiousjim That’s a great idea. I could get a thick rug big enough that both the speakers and couch are on it, and then put granite under the Gaia’s, on top of the carpet.
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing @ghdprentice I’d say I usually listen around 60dB or less (if measured at the listening position anyway - it’s 70dB if I put the SPL right next to the speaker). New apartment is on a busy street so I assume there’s going to be a relatively high n...
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing @audiotroy the landlord told me the floors are wood joist. It’s an old warehouse so I suspect it’s sturdier than most but it’s still wood. Agreed though with your advice that I should just try it and only change speakers if it’s a problem.
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing I already have the Isoacoustics Gaia I feet - I assume those should work the same as Townshend to mechanically decouple the speakers from the floor? The speakers have outriggers so I’d need a huge platform and I’d be worried about the added height...
Good rack with an integrated TV mount Ooh thanks @rhljazz - that free standing BDI mount looks like it would work with almost any rack.
Love to hear from current owners or past users of Isoacoustics Gaia footers. An absolute no-doubter upgrade. When i got the Gaia III’s for my old Egglestonworks Emma speakers, the difference was far more substantial than I’d expected.I’ve since upgraded to the Egglestonworks Kiva speakers, which unfortunately are so heavy ...
2.1 system needs 3 HDMI inputs?? I do what you propose in #2 - all my HDMI sources go to the TV which does the HDMI switching and then the TV sends PCM out via Toslink to my DAC. If i didn’t do this I’d need 3 HDMI audio extractors or a switch box like you mention, either of whic...
PS Audio Stellar Phono I own one, it’s phenomenal. Expressive, detailed, flexible.I have two minor complaints with it: one is that it requires the remote to change settings. Granted this isn’t something one needs to do often, mildly annoying though. Two is that it can be...
Phono Stage That's not Schiit @jjss49 Oh geez, what a dumb mistype. Yes absolutely meant Dynavector.
Where are the young audiophiles? Check out /r/audiophile on Reddit to see what the younger crowd is into. There’s a lot of folks into good budget stuff, but there’s a strong streak of that Audioholics / measurement-first, qualitative-listening-never attitude that can be a bit ins...
tube DAC noise I have the Doge tube DAC and it’s dead silent, and it uses 8 tubes.
Phono Stage That's not Schiit Dynaudio P75 is an incredible value and under $1k, even less if you get one used. Really flexible loading options, so it’s one that can stick around in your system for a long time. It was the component that lasted the longest in my system by far b... |
