What is your latest "rediscovery"?
Led Zeppelin II, on a pair of Ohm C2s with the upgraded woofers, powered by a Carver TFM35x. Played at "noon".
McIntosh 275 and tube rolling, biasing
It's self biasing, which is good. One more headache not to worry about. One reason McIntosh outsold Marantz...Sure, roll those tubes. But,if you have a MC275 with balanced inputs, and use them, you will hear virtually no difference. When you use t...
See it frequently: What exactly is a "troll"?
Blkadr is right about everything he said...
Audiophile book of "Common Sense"
I think it's funny that the recording process uses the cheapest, but in good condition, cables. Miles of it.Mixing boards of who knows what caliber. Mics of whatever origin. Mastered by Mr. ???, in most cases, yet at home, when trying to get "righ...
What numbers are important in SS amps specs
The price. No price could be low enough for me to give up tubes.
correct way to turn off tube preamp
I just flip the on-off switch on the McIntosh C22. The MC275 amp is plugged into a Tripplite surge/noise reducer. It has a switch, too. All my stuff is plugged into it. I never leave any of it on....the ultimate surge protector!Q: Why would you wa...
How many audiophiles to screw in a light bulb?
One in "Bulbophile" to suggest that the latest Mark IV version, with "bulb chimneys" for improved convection cooling, will put out a few more watts than the one you have at even lower distortion than you have, which you can't hear anyway. (read on...
Why are big speakers in small rooms bad?
Try the speakers first. I had a pair of Paradigm Studio 100s Version II in a 10 by 16 room. Sounded GREAT. The back of the speakers were about 8 inches from the wall. Seating position (back of chair)was about 2 feet from the opposite wall. Carpet ...
Most "Ruthlessly Revealing" Speakers. Your opinion
I agree with Newbee. See my old thread titled: "Worse Sound ever from a Tweeter!", or something along that line of thinking. MOST people confuse a revealing speaker with a tilted up high end. Even reviewers in revered magazines!
Anybody getting Paradigm Studio 100's to image?
I owned the V1 and V2, both powered by a McIntosh C22 / MC275 combination. I had no problem with imaging. The V2 is a better speaker, but as stated above, can be a little tipped up in the high notes, even when using tubes. If you can get a pair fo...
Are parts still available for vintage Klipsch?
I currently have a 1956 Klipschorn in the For Sale section. It's all original.... Needs nothing! I would agree with the above statement: These things LAST!
Speaker Stands Filled With Kitty Litter? TRUE???
Hopefully, it wasn't used......Just when you thought you have heard everything!
comparison of Tung Sol & GE 6550
Some folks love Bose equipment! Anyway, you know all the big names out there: Ampex, RCA, GE, Mullard, Genelex, Telefunken. They are BIG for a reason... They sound good and last long. Don't discount the Russian and even Chinese tubes built of late...
What's the funniest song you ever heard?
"I Got Friends in Low Places".
The song you just cant stop playing???
Anything from the DCC remaster of the "McCartney" album. This recording was all done by Paul in own home studio, and sounds like it!! It's a very good recording to test the resolution of a system....the more background noise you hear, the better t...
