Amps for Vandersteen 3A Signature SS or Tube?
I think Programmergeek means the detail is there, but without the harsh upper end. There is a thing as too much "detail" to the point of driving you out of the room! My paradigm Signature S8s did that. The 2K cheaper Vandersteens simply sound bette...
"Off" vs. "Standby" and tube life
ANYTHING left on wears out. That is simple physics.
Do speakers have to "warm-up" too?
It's all in your head.... er, I mean ears. As you get into the music, it sounds better.
The last 5 ?????
Boy, with such a mind blowing system, how did you find any time to post? :)
Good amp for Altec Iconic's
I had a pair of Altec Lansing "Carmel" speakers that sounded great used with a McIntosh MX110 and MC240. In any event use tubes to "tame" the horns. Most SS components used with horns can sound harsh. Have fun!
Paradigm studio 80's to harsh, Parasound HCA-3500
Ohhh, you have a deadly combination there! I had studio 100s and the HCA1000a. Sad to say, but you may want to consider getting rid or both your speakers and electronics.(Now I have vintage McIntosh tube gear and Vandersteen 3a Signatures. Very ni...
Internal Speaker Cabling
Here's a good one to ponder...What to do about the 130 feet of fine wire in your tweeter, midrange and woofer coils!!And you were worried about a few feet between the drivers??YIKES!!!!
is 4 meter speaker cable too long?
Check out www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htmYou'd be surprised how long a run you can have without it effecting anything. Basically, it's all about the guage and a solid connection. After that you're wasting your money.
A blood oath among Audiogonistas
WHO CARES HOW THEY POST?
How much is too much...
It should be a McIntosh 275. Then you won't have to play the upgrade game.
Getting all new cables and need sugestions

speakers to match mainly with Mac SS and tube
I have a C22 - MC275 combination driving a pair of Vandersteen 3a Signatures in a 10 x 16 room. Excellent, top to bottom. Sure beats the pants off of the Paradigm S8 Signatures I had.(they would drive you OUT of the room with HARSHNESS....)I know ...
ST-2 + MD-205 vs MD6-FM
The ST-2 sucks. I had one and a simple crossed dipole from Radio shack thoroughly beat it. (it was $14.95) Your yagi will work wonders, especially since all your stations are in one directon. You won't need a rotor.
Move to NYC Apt -- Vandersteen 3A Speaker Woes
Keep in mind that a 20Hz note has a wavelenght of about 34 feet. In other words to hear it you have to be 34 feet away from the speaker. That's why you could not hear the bass loudly, but your neighbor could. The second node of that note is at 68 ...
Changing termination: will it affect the sound?
Why don't you file out the inside of the spades a little, until you have a snug fit? Save you some time and money and one less connection.
