Another stupid iTunes question
Fixed it. Created a new library on the server (holding down control key while starting iTunes), added music to that library, and now all is well. Thanks.
Another stupid iTunes question
Oopsie. Shoulda mentioned that these are all songs from my own music collection -- from my CDs. Nothing purchased from iTunes among the bunch.
iTunes and file format
Thanks so much, Herman. I know so little about this that I nearly typed "NTSB" for the file format when I was posting this question. I plan to follow your very clear instructions -- on a really big drive -- and be good to go. Thanks, again. Howard
Re: Story about Ringo
I know a guy who had occasion to meet Ringo some years back (not in some big public forum, but rather privately), and he said that the man was, well, the man! He was genuine and down-to-earth and an all-around good guy. Pretty cool, no? And to thi...

Explain the asthetics of Punk
I was in college in the late 1970s and had the great good fortune of having a few friends who turned me on to some fabulous music. I really liked The Clash and The Jam (and still listen to Paul Weller, for what it's worth). There were several camp...
Explain the asthetics of Punk
I don't remember who first said it, but some wise man (and wiseacre) once observed that punk music had to come along to remind us all that rock 'n' roll isn't supposed to sound like Fleetwood Mac. I couldn't imagine saing it any better.
Any U2 Fans Here?
Excellent news, Ryder. I'm willing to bet that you find more songs you like as you hear the disc a few more times. I'll admit to being predisposed toward liking the boys, but I really do think that this is their best album in quite some time.
Any U2 Fans Here?
Sure, the new album's sound quality can be really annoying -- I've found myself turning it down, too -- but there really are a whole bunch of great U2 songs on "No Line on the Horizon." I've played it over and over and have really found myself lik...
Bookshelf Speakers with “Big” sound?
How about a pair of B&W 805s? I had some for a time and actually found that their sound was too big for my needs and desires. (First lived in an apartment, then a condo.) They, too, were not near their best at low listening levels, but once yo...
Simple iTunes question
Thanks so much, Jim and Theraiguy. I figured there had to be some way to do this, but I just couldn't figure it out. Now, this is so much better.
sand versus shot in speaker stands
Yes, lead is heavier, but you really don't want to be handling it and creating lots of lead dust and then having it around to become a problem down the line. When you weigh the safety, sand is plenty heavy enough.
dumb question...I apologize
While there are ways to make this unimaginably complicated, here's a straightforward answer to get things going: You'd plug the RCAs from the turntable into the inputs of your external phono stage of choice, and then plug the outputs from that int...
Heads up: New Marshall Crenshaw CD
I was working in a record store back when Marshall Crenshaw's first record came out. Despite our having a jillion different promo titles to choose among, we all of us -- the owner, the manager, the hourly employees -- spun his fabulous record agai...
