Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better?
@mahgister I remember you saying that no one really needed to spend more that $500 on a system if they were paying proper attention to their room. Now, you say, "It seems and i know that Alas! i did not have the money to buy proper tube amplifica...
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better?
Tubes are better for multiple reasons and yet the world and the trade prefers solid state. What else does "the world" get wrong? Please tell us. Give me a break. You like tubes. I like tubes. I also like pizza? Is pizza better? Many people li...
Best Tube Amp for High Sensitivity Speakers: 45, PX25, or 300B?
@audioman58 Thanks for mentioning Radu Tarta at Simple Pleasure Tube Amps. I just spent some time looking at his site and, well, wow. The descriptions of the build indicate (to me, a layperson and to a tech I know who makes amps) a very high level...

@christianb5s4 Thanks for your answer.
Digital front end upgrade options
@christianb5s4 christianb5s4 Agreed on the above, Node 130 with better power supply and external DAC is a major improvement. That said, Lumin was a major step up as it should be for the price delta. I'm curious if you compared just the streame...

Digital front end upgrade options
The Node is serviceable, but not very engaging.  I had a different experience. I found my Node to be very very engaging. I got a better streamer via a friend who built a nice Roon server and I use that now, but the Node was quite wonderful, esp...
New video review of Fritz Carbon 7 SE Mk. II "Punches above its weight"
@j_andrews Your comment about the 3 wpc blew me away. I really regret returning these. I did wind up with towers but I miss these speakers a lot. @jjss49 I know -- 32 pounds? What am I going to do with my in-home forklift without my 250 Rockports...

Aric Audio. Cf. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/review-aric-audio-super-6sn7-preamp Don't think Kara is still making these. If that's true, then used, this is a good option: dehavilland Ultraverve 3 http://www.dehavillandhifi.com/UltraVer...

why does price get everyone’s panties in a bunch every single time? Maybe because there are people in this country picking through the trash for food or cans.
Long Lost Steely Dan Song
Thanks so much for posting this!
What's the point of reviewing?
Interesting conversation. +1 @jjss49 "the generalized question...is how does one sort through what is available to draw salient, accurate, reliable conclusions upon which to act?" +1 Mahgister's idea that we do need multiple reviewers to help us...
What's the point of reviewing?
The point is well taken -- this is an extraordinarily hard thing to compare for physical reasons above and beyond the interpretive and physiological differences btw people. But, of course, conditions never need to be "identical" to be not mooted. ...
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps?
@sejodiren I’ve had a couple folks tell me in the 10’s Dahlquist group TELL me I need 200 wpc and my amp will never drive them to their capability. MY ears know what I’m hearing. How would they know? Here’s what they might know: they tried po...
